Is the Reach's environment similar to High Rock ?

Post » Wed Aug 01, 2012 4:27 am

Hello Everybody !

After eight months of intensive playing , I finally came to the Reach ( for the first time ! ).
I didn't really look into the details and watched the road , it is pretty obvious that the environment and climate is different from the other holds.

I also seen that the roads and even Markath are extremely close to the border with High Rock.
For me , as a huge fan of High Rock ( DLC dream ) and Bretons as my favorite race , I ask:

Do you think that the environment and climate in the Reach are the same as in High Rock ?

Some side notes:

I can see that even the water that's going through the waterfalls comes from High Rock.
The city is amazing , I must say it became my favorite and I really look towards buying property here.
I'm aware that the city is built on Dwemer ruins.
I must say that the jarl's keep is amazing , I expected to see one of the 'small and Nordic' keeps , but this one , Wow !

Also , I made myself a wallpaper so if you're interested you can use it.

The funny thing is that many people don't even bother with the Reach. I'm sure the reach is probably pretty close environmentally and climatewise as High rock, much like how Riften seems to share a lot of climate and environment as Cyrodiil.

I hope not. I always avoid the Reach. Something about it just feels... lacking. It feels small and it's atmosphere is just dull. Maybe it's the fog.

I know. I love Markarth, but the Reach is just dreary.

I expect the Reach has similar terrain to eastern High Rock.

In western High Rock, the Illiac Bay area is much flatter and calmer. I expect it is somewhat similar to the Mediterranean. It's across the sea from Hammerfell, which has a climate like North Africa.

If you loved all things Breton as much as I you would join me in waiting for an Elder Scrolls game in High Rock. Too much potential to be wasted on an expansion.

I wish the next TES game takes place in the Summerset Isles.
And I want High Rock as expansion , too much time to wait for TES6.

I seriously doubt we will ever get a full province as an expansion. That's ridiculous.

Shivering Isles was an expansion, and it was almost the same size as a province. It's improbable, but it could happen.

But it wasn't a province. Something big, sure, but save provinces for the fully fledged games. It would be a huge waste to have an entire province as a DLC.

The Reach was High Rock at one point. They lost it during a war with skyrim though. I'm sure it's rather similar to the dragontail mountain area in High Rock, but further west probably isn't quite so highlandsey.

It's because the moment you leave Markarth, you can't really expect to see anyone or anything except Forsworn.

It won't happen, but I made a post in the ES series forums about how the next game should basically be a cold war between High Rock and Hammerfell, with the Bretons alligning with the Orcs and carving a new nation, Orsinium, out of the southern part of the Reach and eastern Hammerfell, and the Bretons reclaiming the Reach as part of High Rock since Skyrim has been devastated by civil war.

Uh... I'm quite aware. Daggerfall wasn't even all of High Rock anyway. They could still have a new Elder Scrolls game in High Rock, where it could be accurately represented.
Also, by your logic Daggerfall, Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim should never have been made because they were already in Arena.

Yeah. Todd does want to remaster the depiction of the province, I think, though.

From what Daggerfall had shown, High Rock is pretty hilly in some areas, like the Daggerfall region. I haven't gotten to all the regions yet. The place where the Orc's sorta province once was is more of a mountain. The province is really varied in landscape. Daggerfall just wasn't able to show that due to the way it was made. If you use your imagination, though, many of the areas that seem blank have more in them.

In the southern or northern part of the Daggerfall region, you will find a good amount of forest.

Daggerfall gave us a good idea of what the rest of High Rock is, though. I think so, anyway.

They had a chunk of High Rock and a chunk of Hammerfell, most of which was randomly generated, and needs an emulator in order to run. I'm not bashing Daggerfall or anything, but I can see why people might want a new one. I'd love to see the true (non-random) face of High Rock.

Actually, I'm pretty sure the dungeons and enemies were mainly what was randomly generated. I see the same stuff for the landscape, it just changes, but the texture doesn't change in such a radical way as Arena would do. Black Marsh in Arena would sometimes not be a swamp from what I can tell.

Been a month since I played Daggerfall, so yeah. I might be wrong.

Actually I love The Reach, it's my second favorite area, The Rift beats it out though. Markarth IS my favorite City/town though.

I figured most of it must be randomly generated, since I remember reading that its map is twice the size of Britain.
