The Rueful Axe is Terrible

Post » Thu Feb 28, 2013 11:33 am

Seriously. It swings slower than a warhammer, its base damage is the same as a dwarven warhammer, and improved it still isn't much good.

The design of the axe is cool, and I like the idea of an axe "sharp enough to cut through a god."

But as it is, it svcks. If you wanna make the axe slower, fine, but at least balance it out with something! Give it a bonus critical chance. Make it do more damage. Give it a Damage Health enchantment, or give it something to make it stronger against beasts (it was created to kill a werewolf, after all, and then later to kill a Daedric entity in canine form).

But it svcks.

What's worse, all the mods for it are ridiculous, making it twice as fast as a battleaxe and giving an absorb health enchantment with soul trap. Or a paralyze enchantment.

The one mod that looked promising added a perk that let you improve items like leather and iron; basically anything not covered by the other perks. But it's too buggy.

Please, Bethesda, next patch, do something about this awful axe!

That axe is great if you can get it at low levels. I think that's why the associated quest for it is rather easy, even though you need to travel 2/3's across the map and back again to complete it. Until I could smith a Dwarven Battleaxe or a Steel Battleaxe ( > Superior ), it was my weapon of choice.

Really though, most of the Daedric Items in the game seem to be more for collecting then for actual usefulness. A few are good, but most are just ehhhh, I can make something better. Spellbreaker still my favorite piece even though only one of my characters uses it since he is the only one that regularly uses a shield.

The only thing i hated about that axe is that it doesn't use the original 2-handed sound.

What a daedric item is a problem? Next TES game wont have them. That or smithing is a problem? Next TES wont have smithing.

I don't think a daedric item being "bad" stat wise in one game is a measure of how likely it's going to be in another.
Likewise I don't think smithing is something Bethesda could just toss out without a lot of people going crazy.

Another reason I picked the Masque of Clavicus Vile over the axe. Not to mention the Masque counts toward the Daedric Walker trophy/achievement.

Well to them "fixing" is gutting the feature. Whats the point of having daedric items if you can smith and enchant items, that are better?

You can always make your own mod. The CK is free.

I think you're being too cynical.
Skyrim was the first time Bethesda made a crafting system.

It's just as likely that the developer thought "hey wouldn't it be cool if players could craft items that are better than daedric items?"
They probably didn't think that either. The point is we don't know what they were thinking.
So what's the point of getting so hung up over it.

I disagree. They're supposed to be weapons created by some of the most powerful beings in existence. And usually, they are! The Ebony Mail, although it lags a bit in protection, offers a poison aura and a sneak bonus. Azura's Star is always relevant, for obvious reasons. The Masque of Clavicus Vile is tough, and provides interesting bonuses. Dawnbreaker has a cool effect. But the Rueful Axe? It's disappointingly boring.

Ah, yes. Make my own mod. I tried that once, not exactly easy. Nope, modding isn't for me.

I think he was exaggerating. But really, Xolah, I don't think this thread is the place to complain about the dumbing down of the series. This thread is to complain about the Rueful Axe.

I thought the whole point of the Rueful Axe was kind of Clavicus Vile playing a cruel joke on the player, giving them a supposed "special" weapon for making essentially the wrong choice, and killing his dog.

Thats how I took it at least.

What did you expect from an axe coming from a known trickster after killing a magical puppy?

You can obtain both rewards through a glitch. Hence, the dog is alive after the quest is done.

Both daedric artifacts are terrible, but I'd take the masque over the axe any day.

ha I couldn't agree more, it looks sweet but swings way too damn slow to be useful. It makes a nice wall mount and a satisfying way to shut Barbas up

It's called a "RUEful" axe for a reason. You'll rue the day you chose it as a reward.

Seriously, what the hell. Why would you pick some cruddy axe over the MASQUE OF CLAVICUS VILE, an artifact that has been kicking around TESverse since times immemorial?

I think the crappiness axe is Clavicus' subtle ef-you for not choosing the masque.

I chose axe because it's a badass looking battleaxe not something i'd wear to a daedric masquerade ball :P

I love double bladed battleaxes so I can't even tell you how much I rue the rueful axe...especially since the style suits my barbarian perfectly
damn daedra

I always thought of the axe as a booby prize for making a dumb choice. Never once did I ever think about picking it. Though it would be nice to save, kill that annoying dog with it just to see his reaction, then reload and make the intelligent choice. lol :P

And you HONESTLY expected that an axe HANDED by Clavicus Vile would be awesome? maybe you are forgetting what kind of "deals" that daedra does, It's the dumb prize for the dumb choice folks. I'm glad I never fell for that one (maybe because I don't like axes anyway lol)
