The 'no selling next-gen games' theory.

*by 'no selling next-gen games', I mean no second-hand selling. :P

Personally, I don't believe that Sony and Microsoft are that dim-witted as to virtually kill the physical gaming market (non-digital), which still makes them far more money than digital.

Surely even they wouldn't piss people off that much. I've seen polls on many websites that count many many people who voted 'Yes' for changing to PC for gaming if this is put in place.

I know that if they do, their market will be DRASTICALLY affected. Now, while I highly doubt that they will, it is somewhat worrying that when Sony was asked about this, they responded: "We'll do what's right."

What's your opinion on the matter?

Doesn't seem like a smart move. Also doesn't seem very necessary, since they already have a "get some $$$ out of used game sales" mechanism via DLC and online passes (i.e, even if someone buys UberGame 4:The Ubering used, they still have to lay out the cash for the extras).

Meanwhile, over on the PC side, we haven't been able to sell games for years & years now. So, whatever.

(Honestly, the biggest problem with "no used games" on consoles is the Old Games market. Right now, we can run around and find old cartridges & discs for games that haven't been in print for a decade or two. And play them on our old consoles. What happens in 20 years when someone wants to play Halo 5, but the network that allowed it doesn't exist any more? And the discs in the stores don't work?)

Really, I don't see "no used games" really hitting until we switch over to a mostly-digital-distribution system. Which isn't going to happen for a good long time, because the US broadband network is a joke. No matter how much devs would love to just do everything via digital distribution, they can't - they'd be writing off too much of the potential market. Especially with HD stuff being such huge downloads nowadays.
