The Speech Tree is kind of.....awesome

Post » Sat Jul 28, 2012 2:37 am

I put 3 perks into speech to get the perk where you can sell anything to anyone, and for a character who uses enchanting and alchemy it is the best perk evah! Just thought I'd tell my cool story.

sounds cool, but is it a waste of 3 valuable perks, especially early in the game? what type of character do you have that you can spend 3 perks in speech?

I love the speech tree because it makes the game flow better for me. I hate having to look around for a specific merchant just to sell one type of item to them.

This character is a master of illusion, alteration, enchanting and alchemy and uses the sanguine rose. He already has 100 in illusion and alteration then got the perks in speech which is making leveling alchemy and enchanting much easier.

that seems very true, especially since I hate Belethor.

How do you get to 100 in alteration?

Did you get to 100 in illusion from Muffle?

Yea, speech is awesome. The people that say that tree, along with lockpicking, is useless are just those 'min-max' types. Though yea, lockpicking is probably one of the least desirable trees, but those trees are for convenience and customizing your play through. They are far from worthless in that sense.

The merchant perk is great great great. Its tempting to get on every character I make. Even the cheaper prices perks are awesome. It makes buying levels all that much easier.

The right side of the tree can make some rather lengthy quests go by all that much faster, though I never bothered putting perks there.

Transmute spell is good for levelling alteration, and I believe the shielding or armor spells are alteration as well

I did a bit of the muffle shuffle, but illusion is this character's main weapon so I was amazed at how fast it got to 100. Every dungeon I would sneak, use muffle and frenzy the bandits. For alteration there's a certain quest that lets you get a certain spell early in the game. Not sure how to use spoiler tags, but also telekinesis can level it pretty quickly too.

I always have more money than I can spend after a few dozen hours so I never invested into speech. But for RP-ing it might be worth it.

It's only a waste if you are trying to get "the best" perks in every single tree. If you are a very focused character, you will have perks you don't know what to do with. That's how it is for me right now, but that's NOT how it is when I am trying to create the best all-round character I can who can use and do everything like a boss.

Oooh, I just skimmed over it and didn't notice the emphasis on getting it early game. Yea I know what you are talking about. But you only need 40 alteration to get it otherwise. Not that hard with flesh spells.

I disagree. My character is pretty powerful at level 54. Well-rounded I'd say, and I have that speech perk, and I agree with OP in that it's awesome. I can sell anything to anyone while I create potions and enchant the daylights out of stuff.

Right now actually I have like 7 perk unused cause I'm just not sure where I want to put them, gameplay has been unaffected.

On my level 67 character I had I think 14 or so unused perks. I never placed them cause I got bored with the character and just used it to play through Dawnguard when it came out, but didn't bother placing any of them still, and that was a spellsword build.

A good build that doesn't try to do everything really only needs around 45-50 perks, so if you plan on playing past that there is almost no reason not to take the speech perks, really the Haggling perks should be taken early, if you are going to take them past 1/5, you might as well also take the lockpicking perks. just for the sake of convenience,

When your build is done, if you don't care much about perking other skills that aren't a focus, you might as well go for perks of convenience, such as speech and lockpicking trees, even enchanting's soul siphon, or passive perks, such as alteration's magic resistance, pickpocketing's extra pockets, or restoration's recovery(if you haven't already taken them) just to improve your experience and of course the passive perks will improve your character no matter what skills you are using.

You need to sell things why?

Honestly having money is never a problem in Skyrim which makes the Speechcraft and Lock Picking perks all by worthless.
