One of the first games I played on the PS2, which was when I also started getting really into gaming, was The Suffering. I don't know when it happened, but at some point it was released as freeware. I thought I'd just share this simply because, in my opinion, it's a pretty damn good game. Here's a download link: http://www.shacknews.com/file/12350/the-suffering-free-game
The game was developed by Surreal Software, the developer that was going to make This is Vegas, which is rumored to be cancelled, and published by now defunct Midway. The Suffering is a first/third-person shooter with survival horror elements, and while these are very evident, look at it as a shooter rather than a horror game.
It is a single player game and features straight-forward combat in loads, as well as puzzle solving and gives the player morality choices during the course of the game. As for the setting, it puts you in the shoes of a murderer who have newly arrived to the fictional Abbott State Penitentiary on Carnate Island, Maryland. The plot revolves almost explicitly about the player character Torque, his life, crimes and humanity or lack of it.
So if you got nothing better to do and can download 1.3 gigabytes, give it a try.
