I'm glad this is back! Thought of starting it back up a couple of times, but didn't really have anything to contribute.

Anyone have any big travel plans for the summer?

No big plans at the moment, plan is to buy a small motorboat and sail the canols in my town this summer. Everything looks so pretty from the water, so it is like visiting another place. And inSeptember we are planning a weekend to some European city with some friends, but destination and exact date are still unknown. Oh, and a business trip in September to Berlin as well, alwasys a nice city to visit. And MAYBE a (business) trip to Hong Kong end of the year, but that is still pending...

Cincinnati is a medium-small city of about 250,000. But it has an enormous metropolitan area. Somewhere over 2,000,000. I'm pretty sure all Ohio cities are like that. The downtown is pretty small, and it lies on a river with most of the big attractions on the river banks. There are a few tallish buildings, and some pretty cool looking buildings.

I honestly think that Cincinnati (and Covington) could be their own little country. It is so much different than the rest of the U.S. it used terms that only those two cities use, and the people seem to act more irrational over our culture than other areas in the U.S.

Well guerilla gardening is something that's popular here in Vancouver.

How so? I'm from Northeast Ohio and have never been to Cinci. I don't know much about it, to be honest. It is commonly known, at least in the North, that it is where southern accents start.

I live in Houston now. It is considered the 4th largest city in the US, but I don't think that's accurate at all. It is like cheating in a way, because Houston goes on and on and on. The land grid in East Texas is Non-Jeffersonian, meaning there are no rectangular subdivisions (commonly referred to as townships), so all you have is huge counties with municipal subdivisions (cities) in between. What is considered to still be the "City of Houston" would be considered a suburb anywhere else. How can you drive almost 40 minutes out of downtown and still be in the city? It is ridiculous to me. And downtown isn't even that big.

It's hard to explain, you would have to ask a question, or give me a scenario or something.

And I'm pretty sure Cincinnati does sound different than most other places, but I wouldn't say it is a southern accent. It's almost like a sub-accent for the Midwest.

Scottish woman! You teased us with potentially hot answer then stayed silent. I am disappointed

Driving from downtown to edge of the city (the airport) takes around same time if you're on highway here. I'm not sure that's really too big. However when I've been Chengdu (in Xichuan province China), it took around an hour to drive from the airport to another nearby township at 100km/hour and still under Chengdu county. So I think it's not really too big, just probably not as seamlessly prosperous as Huston.

Does anyone here have a Nandos in their city/town/country/house?
What are they like, we have them here but I don't go to them because AFAIK it's just a fancy KFC with dearer chicken?

There's a Nandos here in Edinburgh. I actually really like it - the food tastes a million times better (healthier...) than in KFC. Its not breaded/battered and they make it fresh each meal (I think...). Plus the sides are lush.

Heh, It's a jumble of bleached driftwood and frayed rope tied to a stake to resemble a redheaded skeleton. It's supposed to be a monument to some girl in the 19th centruy that was drowned at high tide for singing the wrong Psalm or something. I made sure it got into our holiday snaps.

You made that, Turns, didn't you? You were on the beach, and a sandcastle just couldn't quite cut it.

Nono, it's been there years, it has a plaque and everything!

I could see my grandad doing that though, he has a large driftwood collection. Which is only impressive when you realise that he lives quite a long way from the sea.

I might be moving to Texas, because failing my Freshman year in High School is a distinct possibility.
