The Unofficial Indie Thread

Often I see members of our illustrious forums talking about indie games, yet we have no place to discuss the genre as a whole. So how about BGSF? Shall we have a proper place to sit down and discuss these wonderful little games, unchained by the big business practices of the AAA world?

I suppose I could start with some of my favorites.

Journey ( Though it is on the cusp of being non-indie)
To the Moon
Castle Crashers
The Binding of Isaac
Braid
Minecraft (Though we do have a dedicated thread)
Flower
FTL: Faster Than Light

I've recently played Little Inferno. A fun puzzle game with the occasional laugh and interesting setting.

I also played Dear Esther not to long ago. I despised it. I'm more forgiving than most when it comes to a lack of gameplay but this was so painfully linear and boring. The dialogue was well written and it was a visually stunning but nothing that countered the overwhelming dislike I had for the game.

Then there is Home. A point and click murder-mystery that ultimately lets you chooses the ending. It had some great ideas and use of atmosphere but it fell short on most aspects. At times I felt like it gave the the flimsy illusion of choice but always forced me down the same road.

Finally Proteus. An odd game with no real purpose, other than to wander around the randomly generated island like a young child mystified by the world. It's a great game to just sit down to and forget about all your troubles.

I'm really looking forward to A Bird Story. Kan Gao's, the founder of Freebird Games and lead on To the Moon, short, set in the same universe as To the Moon.

So BGSF, what are some of your favorite indies? What have you been playing? What are you looking forward to?
