The Urge to Restart....

Post » Sat Oct 20, 2012 5:24 pm

It's happening again, just when I thought I was immune to restartitis!

I thought my current main character (a level 62 Bosmer Archer) was on the right track thus far; unlike my previous attempt with which I blundered through the main questline, up to about level 30 before realising I'd made a lot of the wrong choices and needed to restart - no biggy, I was completely new to the Elderscrolls games back then.

So my current attempt (started earlier this year) was shaping up to be a decent build, with all I'd read up on and learnt. However, after leaving her alone whilst playing on several other characters for the last few months, I revisited and was pretty disheartened to realise that one, small little thing had pretty much ruined the gameplay on that character for me - the Bullseye perk!

Now I know it's currently bugged at the moment, but thats not it - I haven't even installed the patch that screws it up yet, so it doesn't effect me. It's the damned paralysis itself. Being my primary skill, Archery was the first level 100 I reached with that character, and I grabbed the 'master' perk thinking it must be fantastic, because it's at the top of the tree. It's a reward. How wrong I was. Having not used paralysis potions or enchanted weapons at that point, I assumed it would 'freeze' enemies still - as opposed to have them fall over behind obstacles in the distance and making them harder/more awkward to kill.... Hardly a 'Bullseye', really. By the time I realised this it was too late, I'd saved (I keep multiple save files, but had made hours and hours of progress on the latest one) and moved straight on to leveling my one-handed, alchemy and a few other skills all the way to 100. Then after some time away to level up other characters, I come back to my 'main', got my bow out, and realised just how frustrating this non-perk is. Low and behold, I've got the urge to start the entire build again - a daunting 220+ hour task.... Over something as *small* as a perk (pffft, anything but).. I'd also quite fancy a name change, but that's beside the point lol.

What's more, I'm on PS3 - if I was on the PC this would be all sorted in 5 minutes and wouldn't bother me and my perfectionist ways.

I WISH there was some way to rectify this. I'm not talking a full on perk respec system or anything that people could abuse to level their character; but maybe a book, or an NPC that you could pay a large sum of money to and make a few tweaks.... I dunno. I feel a little screwed over by the game and a terrible feature masquerading as a 'perk'. Whats more a restart wouldn't be fun, which entirely defeats the purpose of even playing the game in the first place.

Anyway, frustration aired..

Has anyone else experienced this level of frustration over perks or otherwise, and found themselves teetering on the edge of a restart?

Restart.... sweet god no Jim.
There is no restarts for me, the show must go on.

The show stops when the shows stops and the performance is cheered and everyone bows.
Only when that is over may a new playthrough begin in it's fullest for form.

But strictly no repeats, I would rather die.

restart, but do not do same build dont make an archer make mic build of duel daggers and bow with light armor and alchemy omfg you would be a boss. although i would not put to much of the dmg bonus on your bow so you dont one hit kill everything, unless you dont do sneak, which i recommend not using sneak. take a guy out with the bow and change in with the daggers going crazy slice and dice them fools.

sounds fun to me, go restart and kick some AZZ

I've got almost a dozen different characters and the highest level any of them has obtained is 48. I start new characters all the time. For me, the first 25 levels are the most fun and I really start to loose interest after level 40.

Im currently on my 3rd character but like you, my 1st character started out as a stealth assassin, using nothing but a bow. (No magic whatsoever) I did this all the way to about level 69 but soon got bored cus my daedric bow's max damage was at around 300+ and everything including giants, mammoths, trolls etc went down in one shot. So as soon as i got to level 81..

I started a 2nd build.. this time i used nothing but duel weild swords (Or daggers + Elemental Fury = [censored]) with full heavy armour (Was going for a warlord build) and put it on expert. I hit lvl 35 and got bored cus i realised this build was even easier than my 1st one! Mostly due to my duel daedric daggers combined with elemental fury which owned absolutely everything that i came into contact with... (again used no magic whatsoever. Unless you class shouts as magic)

so i started my 3rd and current account, my first ever pure mage build. Strictly magic only. (My main schools being destruction and conjuration with a dab of illusion) Swords and bows are off limits (i dont have any in my inventory), No armour of any kind allowed.. only enchanted mage robes and jewelry, Expert difficulty)

Im currently sitting at level 44 and even tho i never really liked using magic, ever! (I use to hate magic) ive found myself enjoying this playthrough 10x more than my first 2 playthroughs simply because its alot more challenging. N When u get enough magicka to use the more powerfull spells it becomes intense, especially when you have a mage following you and you get into a battle with a gang of enemy mages then it gets insanely intense and also.... it looks sick!

I havent even bin to the greybeards to learn the 'Ro' and 'Dah' yet haha my unrelenting force is just 'Fus' still! lol

got my conjuration to level 100 about an hour ago so now everywhere i go i have 2 dremora lords by my side all the time.. earlier i watched them rip through a whole campsite that was packed with bandits in less than 20 seconds while shouting "I will feast on your heart"... gotta be one of the most entertaining things ive ever seen on skyrim, to date.

Anyway back to my point :P If youre gonna start again i recomend trying a mage build this time.. n if you really wana challenge yourself make it a pure mage build.

Shooting a bow or swinging a sword is easy... fighting battles using only magic is hard when u take all the different factors into account.. but u soon realise this when u f*** up and next thing u got 3 guys in ur face hackin u to bits. You have to be tacticull and plan your every move.

Give it a try you never know you might like it!

I also restarted, but I am not as happy that I did. THe only old save I have is From 11/11/11 where character generation begins. I had finished up almost everything with my warrior. So when it came time for the reroll I'm playing, a lvl 19 Alter Mage, i lose interest quickly because I have done everything. What I would recommend to you is get the gear that you want to use, and start playing another class with the things you have.
