There's an Army behind that tree.

Post » Mon Dec 16, 2013 5:34 pm

This thread is covering an issue that results from a no collision detection game between players. I would prefer collision with a small built in fix for "human walls" like maybe by crouching you can walk through players, but that's not really something I am worrying about. I don't care if there is player collision or not, it won't make it or break it for me.

I just want to lay out an aspect of no player collision that I may have an issue with. This aspect is the "Army behind the tree" scenario.

Without player collision, It will be possible for hundreds of players from the same faction to all stand over the same spot (behind a tree for example) and jump out on unsuspecting people.

How do you guys feel about this? How will it affect PVP? Will it be an issue? Will it break immersion tremendously? You could be walking over a small bridge and to your surprise there is 50 people camping under neath your feet ready to strike.

I honestly am not sure how to feel about this... Will it be cool PvP strategy? Should we find a fix for this? Will it negatively affect pvp?

Leave your opinions below!

Really excited for this game, can't stop reading the forums just to let time pass :D

You'll never see this happen because getting people to coordinate is impossible.

I think it would be cool!

An ambush kind of things, why would you not want this?

With smaller groups however...

Like, not 50 men but maybe 10?

I think it will make it easier for me to kill them since they all are in one spot.

How would that make it easier? They are ALL at one spot

You can't just mass kill them all, right?

I would personally get like 10 of my guild members and camp near the outskirts of popular locations and jump solo adventurers

It will be cool to see how this plays out. CAN'T WAIT FOR APRIL 4TH... if the PvP in this game is fun, I will play it for years on end.

I hate clipping and part of my RP rules that i follow, i will not join such an event and will try not look at it either. Clipping reminds me of RL when two babies are born inside each other. Some of those pics are just gross to put it lightly. I understand why there is no CD in MMO games and I am fine with that (but single player games, it MUST be there)

Like Rona stated AoE might even it up especially if my team has only one target to target but are attacking from different spots so the return fire is likely not going to be as effective.

I guess these things just depend on certain criteria like the amount of players that are involved, the way of ambush they'll do, the levels obviously, the AoE

But ambushing would still be awesome, even though it wouldn't improve your success rate as much as the other things :read:

Too late to add collision detection to this game, unless you want them to delay the game for another year. And it's not going to happen anyways because it's not as demanded by people as things like First Person View was. So, yeah...

I likely can only play in First Person since third person will likely have too many camera adjustments and likely random movement jerks which wind up giving me headaches. If the third person camera angle was static like Diablo games than I would prefer it.

I'm aware it is too late to add player collision. I just want to know what you guys think about stacking players on top of each other for ambush attacks or other uses (like hiding)

Keep in mind, Cyrodiil will have huge battles, small battles, 1v1 battles. It will have explorers, adventurers, RPers, pvpers. So there will be so many different scenarios possible. It's interesting to speculate how things will turn out.

Root them and AoE them all down, and GG.

Stacking is an awful strategy in non-collision detection games. All you are doing is asking for yourself to all be rooted in place and killed very quickly. Large groups can easily be killed by just a few people if all you want to do is just stack on each other.

Yup. Plenty of ways to get around people who try and use this tactic. Though it is like trying to herd cats to even make this possible in the first place lol

It's not as simple as AoE attacks and binding, you're being ambushed, they won't just stand there inside each other after they have decided to pounce at you.

You are walking in the forest, solo or with a group of friends exploring. You always are on the look out for big guilds / war clans near the area. Everything seems peaceful, no sign of life. Then you walk past a boulder only to find 20 people jumping out at you and your friends. They won't stay in the same spot after you've detected them... that would defeat the purpose.

One thing I hope to see is Epic 1v1 death matches. Just a test of build / skill. I'm not too interested in huge battles, they are fun, but sometimes you get more pride in a 1v1 solo match.

That's if my friends and I are that easily going to let ourselves get ambushed like that. Organized groups will have scouts that go out to check to find groups like this.

What are you talking about? That exact thing happens in GW2 WvW quite often. Commander says 'stand on me' and people do. Leave a couple people out as bait so the enemy zerg thinks they're ambushing a couple fools, then the pile jumps in.

It would happen once, maybe twice. If people don't learn after that then they're [censored] stupid and were going to die even if you all spread out locking arms in a hands around the world formation.
