Is there a lot of hand-placed loot in Skyrim?

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 7:59 am

In Morrowind, there was a ton of hand-placed loot. If you knew where to look, you could go and get some of the best loot in the game at early level.

Is there a similar amount of hand-placed loot in Skyrim? So far in 60+ hours of play, and watching someone else play, I'd say there is some, but not a lot. A few of the masks we have found seem to be hand-placed. But most of the loot is randomly generated it seems.

Without giving me any spoilers of where to look, is there more hand-placed, legendary, or just great items to be found in the world? I don't mean quest rewards really, just hand-placed loot. Think of the legendary items in Morrowind and how they were placed in the world. Is Skyim at all like that?

And if it's not, I would suggest to Bethesda to consider incorporating more of that in their next game. The way Morrowind did legendary items and hand-placed loot was well, legendary.

Most of the dungeon loot does seem to be randomly generated, once in a while I'll find something that isn't.

But... there are a number of (great) quests that offer artifacts as a reward, finding the quests can be quite challenging without looking them up but I think they are some of the best in the game, both story and reward-wise.

I found a mace. In a house. With a creepy voice. Does that count?

There's more handplaced loot but nothing on the scale that Morrowind did, which in my opinion is a good thing.

I think bethesda did something kinda genius, it seems like they made hand place randomly generated loot, I can tell because I find different weapons in the same position on different playthroughs

Yeah, it seems like their hand-placed loot is actually randomly generated and scaled, which is a good idea. It works for Skyrim. I still would have wished for some pieces that are completely static and hand-placed though. Like legendary items in certain dungeons, or in the possession of certain NPCs, perhaps in a locked chest (like Divayth Fyr had in Morrowind). I guess in the end though, real hand-placed items didn't jive with their idea to make the game randomly generated (similar to the radiant story quests, etc). So they made all loot randomly generated.

If you are a big fan of finding 11 gold coins in an urn this game is for you. Sometimes 8 gold coins. Sometimes 15 - that really gets me excited when I see 15.

To me it seems mostly random crap. Quest caves seems to be hand places, other then that I'd say mostly random.

There's plenty of "hidden gems" in places, you just have to look.

I've never found a unique item placed in a dungeon that wasn't directly related to a quest.

What they did is placed object spawn points and configured them so that the random item generated looks like it was hand-placed. It looks nice until every dungeon you enter is just littered with Ebony and Glass equipment.

I miss the excitement I got in Morrowind of going into a dungeon and discovering something totally unique that I could find noplace else in the world. I had rooms full of items I collected, and every item had a story behind it that made it worth saving.

In Skyrim I just get lots of random junk that I don't even bother picking up anymore.

Edit: and don't get me started on how disappointing all of the Unique items in Skyrim are.

There appears to be hand placed loot, but not as much as Morrowind. Which is a good thing, I think. Otherwise eventually you know exactly were to go to get powerful stuff, and that kind of kills realism - since your character has no real way of knowing.

This could be the result of Radiant Story.

Lol no. There are some hand placed things but usually loot is just boring and randomly generated. The few bits of hand placed loots are oftne interesting though. Theres also far too much loot. I keep finding a super enchanted ebony thing in every other container. No reward in finding anything.

People need to understand hand placed loot was like Scourge, Daedric Crescent, Skullcrusher Mace, helm of the Worm King... All those special artifacts stored away in dungeons, hidden, floating above lava....

And at guy I quoted, ganking for my siggy.

This could be the result of Radiant Story.

it has nothing to do with radiant story it has to do with leveled items that were in Morrowind and Oblivion that can now be placed in the world instead of just in containers and referenced in scripts

the game wouldnt be fun though if you loot one dungeon and everything you find is perfect for you.
