is there a site up yet that will allow you to plan out your character ahead of the game?

I'm using excel spreadsheets right now. I'm really nuts about the planning process.

I'm sure that until the game and strategy guides come out we won't have one though.

Its a bit early for that don't you think? I think you should just do it the old fashioned way.

I always play the game for about 8 or so hours, get a feel for how leveling and character building work, and then start over and go through the whole game. This has worked for me through Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallout 3 and New Vegas, so I will do the same for Skyrim.

i like that system, but maybe not 8 hours. about 4 hours should do it for me. just need to decide what race i want to be.

I'm just using the ol' pen to paper combo, course most of the stat building is just speculation at the moment.

I have also used excel to plan my character (after I converted Oblivion classes to what I would of made Skyrim classes if they had them).

This. I usually make a character or two, try out some different options in the beginning part and then make a save before the "final customization" part. Hopefully Skyrim will have the option to finalize your decisions, and completely remake the character after you finish the "training" section.
This is usually when i decide exactly what i want my character to look like, which honestly is the only thing that matters that early on in skyrim, since classes and birthsigns are out the window.

you could just not spend your perks and decide how to use them after 8 hours. No need to start over lol

But then you won't have learned how useful any perks are ;)

I wouldn't mind playing with a skill calculator for perks, but I know from experience that when you get to actual gameplay you typically have to throw away your carefully planned build :)

Still, in the TES games... you can't really screw up too badly... since you can pretty much control what level you are when you enter any area or MQ step or whatever.
