These Devs Listen to Fan-Feedback

Of course, "World of Warcraft” is the long-reigning king of the massively multiplayer online games. And when “The Elder Scrolls Online” http://www.nbcnews.com/technology/ingame/elder-scrolls-online-takes-aim-world-warcraft-815107 many of the franchise’s long-time fans not only complained (at times loudly and angrily) that their beloved series was straying down the wrong path, they worried that "TESO" was looking too much like a “WoW” knockoff.

But Firor said that, since the spring of last year, his team has been tweaking and changing the game to make sure “The Elder Scrolls Online” feels first and foremost like, well, an Elder Scrolls game.

“[The changes] were all 100 percent driven by, 'hey, we need to make sure that the minute anyone sits down to play the game, they know it’s an Elder Scrolls game,'" he told me. “We went to the mouse-driven combat system that anyone who played ‘Oblivion,’ ‘Morrowind’ or ‘Skyrim’ on a PC will easily be familiar with… We made the character proportions a little more realistic and a little grittier. We did a whole bunch of things with the content to just kind of give the feeling that it’s the Elder Scrolls world.”

There has been some discussion on here about whether the apparent changes after the initial announcement were fan driven. It seems that they were.

The world wouldn't be faction locked if they did. They have gutted the biggest and most prestigious staple of this franchise. FREEDOM.

That's a good thing to hear. Although I may whine that my own concerns haven't been answered yet, I can fully understand why they haven't said anything yet.

I am trying to understand the meaning of what you said, I believe the freedom is still there. This time we will be on the 3 maps joined together... Ah the traveling we can do..

We have the story that explains why we have the 3 fractions and why they were created. This is AFTER Skyrim and it is the new beginning. The freedom in all 3 of the franchise was to pick where you wanted to start what you wanted to be and how you grow in those things that you picked. In this TESO we chose where we are from, who we are and what we want to become.

That's because most of TES fans on this forum refuse to come to this part of the forum and are disgusted that they have sold out this franchise to an MMO. Bring up this game in the Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim, Elder Scrolls Series sub forums and a poll wouldn't favor this game at all.

Actually this is about 1000 years before Skyrim.

As for the faction lock discussion, I've posted a rebuttal to the poll outcomes bit (which is inaccurate) in the proper thread. Please discuss it there instead of here.

Let's also ignore the fact that this forum is literally 1% of the TES fanbase. There's no way to know for sure if the majority of the fans are for or against faction locking.

Why do people act like this is going to ruin elder scrolls?

Its a BRANCH of the series, the MAIN single player game IS STILL developed separately, at worse, if this game fails to rock bottom it will be a small stain on the elder scrolls series, but it will 0 effect singe the rest of the games are SINGLE PLAYER....

And imho this game will not svck, at worst it will have a smaller player base than anticipated.

Huh?
You got to explore one of these regions PER GAME. Now you have multiple in ONE, and all you need to do is make a new character. Maybe you should go to the single player forum and whine that you can't visit Skyrim because you're playing morrowind and see how it goes.

Where, exactly, are you being shafted?

They don't listen, if they did we would of just gotten morrowind/oblivion/skyrim online, but its clearly more of a generic mmo then a true first person sandbox elder scrolls game...

I'm thinking the 3 maps joined together would be similar to old DAOC, which had stellar PVP in its Frontiers. I stayed with that game longer than I should have (it had grown graphically old from '01 to '07 and most of my guildmates had long since moved on by the time I did). But what kept me there was the 3 faction system. Once I could jump over to the other faction and play for a bit without having to wait the one hour cooldown to do so, this allowed much greater freedom in seeing/experiencing all the game had to offer. I played on regular servers, so PVP was limited to the Frontiers. I do not think this was the case on primarily PVP servers, and I am not sure how the PVP servers allowed characters to move from one realm to another. However, having three realms in one game did not necessarily give you a greater area to explore since there were limits to entering the other realms territories. Hopefully this minor drawback to a triple faction system in DAOC will be improved upon in ESO. Very interested to see what ESO is doing to give us that freedom to enter into the realms of other factions without having to log off a main and go to a character in a different realm.
