sorry i forget the name of the quest, it's the very first quest in the thief guild quest line, you know where you have to collect the debt from the three merchants.

is it possible to complete this quest without killing them? i assume it is.......... but....... i couldn't.

no matter what i tried last night i couldn't complete this quest without going to jail once and paying a bounty(best out of 5 attempts).

and was that quest even possible to complete without even gaining a bounty(or going to jail)?
lastly, how can one get rid of their bounty (without a bribe to guard), is it possible?

Brynjolf and also sometimes if you talk to the locals they'll let slip something to give you some leverage

I don't remember having to kill them, I just selected the (brawl) option and beat them till they dropped to a knee and they give up thyre bounty

I didn't have to kill any of them. talk to them and click the brawl... it's not killing... and if you beat two of them the third will cower and just give you the money...

With the lizard woman she always won against me with here unarmed claw attacks i think, so speak to that other lizard dude in the same place

One i managed to persuade, the other two i had to brawl with. But i had the pugilist gloves from the guy i killed in the ratways, so that was a breeze.

Dont kill them

i tried to brawl with the inn keeper and got royally f'ed. the other merchant was 2v1 ended up killing woman cuz she was using dagger.

You don't have to kill/fight any of them.

In most of the Thieves Guild quests they encourage you not to kill targets, that's more Dark Brotherhood territory.

For the shop owner, break the dwmner vase across from him.

For the argonians, talk to her fiance and he'll give you levergae to use against her.

For the innkeeper, steal her statue and bribe her.

No killing, no brawling. the quest giver explains all of this and it's under your quest objectives tab as well.
