He's perfectly right on every point he makes, people seem to stop when he mentions the awful dialogue Brynolf spouts out during your first encounter, simply because he didn't mention he also notices if the player is short on gold. That alone doesn't come anywhere near close to saving what's one of the worst pieces of storytelling I've ever come across.
I like the guild, the location is cool and the armour is cool, and I enjoy the radiant quests offered by Vex and Delvin, as well as retrieving Larceny Targets for him and completing No Stone Unturned for Vex.
But the main story? It's ridiculous, Karliah in particular. Spending 25 years doing nothing, then deciding to try and weaken the guild through breaking into the mead business which falls apart instantly in order to create an ambush for Mercer which he may not have fallen for and in the end escapes easily due to Karliah deciding to shoot the player character for no reason and then run away, simply to translate a diary showing what Mercer has done, this comes as a surprise to Karliah who despite being under oath to do so, didn't bother to check the Twilight Sepulcher during her quarter of a century of doing nothing, the diary is then seen as proof of Mercer's betrayal despite it being just some scribbling from a Scholar, it could have all been altered or fabricated easily. So she forces you to become a Nightingale and track down Mercer who may have carried out the plans found in his home (that he kindly left) already or simply isn't going to at all since after clearing out the broken guild with the secretly stashed away pile of loot that nobody ever noticed dwindling he could pretty much go anywhere.
