Thieves guild armor glitch

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 3:21 pm

I sold the Thieves Guild armor I got at the beginning of their quest line believing that I wouldn't be able to sell anything quest related. Now I can't finish their final mission because I need the armor to swap out for the Guildmaster armor. And I can't even use Tonilia as a fence because the armor issue is the only dialogue option she has available.

That's odd, I had my armor stored and picked up my guildmaster armor and now I have both sets, not sure why you are experiencing problems.

The issue is with the upgrading of the regular thieves armor. If you sold it, especially to the fence there, you're stuck. She just says "come back when you have a piece of thieves armor for me to improve" So if the armor is inferior and you sell it, you're in trouble later on.

What he said.

Looks like I may need to attempt this achievement on another playthrough, cant wait to do all those bedlam/sweep jobs again!

I'm hoping this issue gets fixed with the patch that is supposed to come out the day after Thanksgiving. Of course I'll be making a second playthrough of the game, but I'd rather do that for fun. Not because I need to get an achievement that I should have already unlocked.

I'm also stuck because of this, and it's pretty frustrating. Being a rogue, I went straight for the Thieves Guild as one of my first destinations, and it was disappointing for the whole thing to build up to a glitched conclusion after so many hours. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the main Thieves Guild quests, but I would rather not do all the extra jobs grinding again...more time is spent loading cities/shops/houses/guild than is actually spent playing in those jobs.

I am absolutely loving this game, and thus far this has been the only souring experience. I really, really hope this is fixed in a patch. Or, at the very least, they should help future players by informing them that selling the armour is a VERY bad idea.

This happened to me as well, sold it to Tonilia, and now I can't access her to buy it back. Stuck.

Yeah, the fact that I can't use Tonilia as a fence is the most frustrating aspect of this situation.

Just realized I can't use either of the master trainers in the Thieves Guild until I complete the guild master ceremony. Awesome

Hey guys, there MAY be a solution for you. When I bought Honeyside in Riften and purchased the Enchanting table for the basemant, it also added Manequins that act as armor stands. Sometimes for now reason Thieves guild armor (No gloves ect.) will spawn on it for no reason. If I remember I'll look into it a bit more and get back to you guys, until then, good luck!

I put my thieves guild armor on my mannequin in Solitude and now I cant keep it from duping itself. Every time I pull it off, stick it in a drawer, and put something else on the mannequin, I'll leave the building, come back, and the other gear is still in the mannequin's inventory, it's just not wearing it. Instead its wearing a brand new set of thieves guild armor. I have 10 sets of that crap now.

I originally wasn't planning on buying any other houses since my house in Solitude suits my needs fine. On my way to purchase Honeyside right now, though.

Ah well, it was worth a shot. I'll keep checking back to see if I get lucky. But just curious Bodhidog, did you put Thieves Guild armor on the mannequin first and then it kept duplicating? Or is it just spawning it out of thin air?

This is exactly what happen to me in Riften, it's not that I lose my armor it's just that I keep getting new sets. I would suggest if you guys need the armor to get the last set of armor you try this one of the houses you own. I would try it in Whiterun as getting the Riften house can take a few hours due to having to earn the Jarl's trust, and Honeyside is 8,000...9,000 if you want to the mannequins >_>.

Thanks for posting this by the way, I'm not going to sell my armor now, lol.

EDIT: I wonder if this holds true for the Dark Brotherhood...I better bite the bullet and reload my most recent save before I sold it.

You don't need to have kept the shrouded armor to complete the Dark Brotherhood quest line.

So the armour just appears on the mannequins? Are you 100% sure you didn't put it on the mannequinn before hand?

I just bought the house in Riften and there is definitely no armor appearing on the mannequins. I dressed one up in Nightengale armor and I decided to make that my go to enchant spot so I can keep checking to see if any armor spawned. No luck so far, though.

I would be happy with the option to buy back the armor I sold to Tonilia. But as it is now, I can't buy or sell anything to her. A shame too. That would be my one stop buying and selling emporium if I could

I am apparently having this glitch too, although I have completed all the thieves guild quests, I have the armor set that is required, and Tonilia will still sell to me. She just never has the dialog option to upgrade the set. This means I can't get the achievement for restoring the thieves guild.

Okay, well I figured out what's happening with the armor and the mannequins. Apparently, whatever armor you put on it first, gets duplicated once you take it off, leave and come back. I now have several sets of Nightingale armor.
