Thieves: What's your best worst hiding spot?

Post » Fri Jul 27, 2012 12:32 pm

As a thief/assassin/skulker, you don't want to get caught! Some have mastered the art of hiding in plain sight. As awesome as that is... where is that other favorite even more amusing 'you don't seeeee meeeee!' spot? (though if anybody paid attention you'd be seen in an instant).

For instance, I THOUGHT I was being sneaky last night breaking into a place. Unfortunately when I snuck in people were still awake..... thankfully they didn't notice me. I dare not move a hair since they'd spot me. I was smart! (ha ha) and drank an invisibility potion, gave me 30 seconds to find a better hiding spot to wait for them to go to bed. Not much option but into a very, very small bedroom and onto the nightstand next to the bed where I promptly waited. Thankfully it was the place of least suspect. My invisibility wore off as a person walked into the room, glanced at me and squeezed past me into bed. Guess my lamp impression was good enough.

For sure a new favorite hiding spot! Bad, but oh so good.

There's been times when Anise at Anise's cabin is sitting in her chair and I will jump behind her and crouch and be hidden standing on the chair directly behind her.

The roof. Why can't I reach most of them? I want to hide on the roof. Okay, the worst has to be in stores. Why? The owners want to be my shadow. I can't name any horrible hiding places that make good ones. Sad... I could name a million if you asked me what terrible hiding spots in Morrowind work way too well.

I know right. I was trying to get on the chapel's roof in riften to get a better shot at the people in the plaza with my bow, but an invisible wall denies me passage all around it. What a great way to ruin immersion. Why is that wall there? Why are you not letting me on the roof!? :yuck:

I usually jump up on a book case behind someone and crouch, no idea how they don't see me let alone how from up there I manage to look into their pockets and take all of their jewelry.

No real need to hide. Sneak is ridiculous in Skyrim, way too over the top.

No. It isn't.

It starts out pretty weak, but once you get some levels in it, it can really be easymode, especially for archers.

Yes I agreed to that.
But not "that" ridiculous, just need bit of improvement. My opinion though

The tippy-top of Fort Sungard's tower. Sniped two Forsworn - "Show yourself!" "Eh, must be my imagination." Sniped three more - "Where are you?!" "Must've scared them off." Sniped two more - "You won't leave here alive!" "Perhaps I was just hearing things." Sniped the last one - silence. I thought for sure they'd rush up to take me out after the first few shots, but they never did. It's not like they could've been baffled as to where I was shooting them from, either - they'd all cluster around the base of the tower for a minute or two each time before shrugging it off and meandering back to their posts. I love towers.

The best is when you shoot but not kill someone and they say it was their imagination. Yes, that arrow sticking out of your face is a figmant of your imagination...

Yeah, acrobatics would make being a thief real nice. It's too bad it's gone.

Yeah in another thread someone was saying that rolling would make the game to action like. Maybe that's why they took acrobatics away so they game wouldn't be so "action oriented". Doesn't make sense to me.

I often stalked the guard in Riften who walked from Honeyside to Scorched Hammer and back, endlessly. With black robes and the right sneak-assists, I could add 4 or 5 to my sneak a night.

Then the bozo, inexplicably, acquired a torch, which made it harder. It was weird, one night he just had a torch, and he carried one from then on.

Funny when I walk past someone while they are in a chair, they see me then I stand directly behind them. They don't have the sense to see what I'm up to back there so I steal from them.
