The reason all our known life is based on Carbon is that it is able to form very long, complex and different shaped forms with various other elements. Science fiction often presents other elements such as Silicon as a source of life but realistically this is not exactly possible since Silicon, for example, is not nearly as versatile as Carbon.

Yes I am fullyaware of how tides and the moon works but I thought it was common knowledge that a big lump of ice was responsible for this sunken ship

well the tides could cause ice to come out into farther waters and be in the way
but then again im pretty sure it was caused by poor navigation and poor steel work inside the structure it self
