Things you wish you could say

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 8:51 am

So, it's been discussed in-depth about how many players wish they could say a choice word or two to Delphine. But she's really just the tip of the iceberg. Not only is speech craft woefully underused, there seems to be a plethora of conversations where things I wish I could say just ain't there.

For example, when you chat with Captain Aldis and learn that Fura (alchemist's daughter) is dead and he sends you to tell the old lady. I would dearly, dearly love to tell that coward to grow a pair and face the lady. But you can't. This is just one of many, but I'm not here for me.

What about you? What is something you really want to say to an NPC that ain't a dialogue option?

Edit: hyphen for in-depth.

[censored]. YOU. DELPHINE.... on a serious note i'd like to tell her that a Dragonborn it is my birth right to assume direct control of the Blades, and as you immediate superior, let go of this silly thousand year old grudge or if you wont relenquish it then from this moment hence fourth you and others that cannot forgive this stupid oversight, are here by banished from the Blades but would be welcomed back on the condition that you have let go of this grudge. Then id rebuild the Blades to their former glory by myself or with their help.

I haven't had a run-in with Delphine yet (I haven't been back to Sky Temple after MQ on one character and haven't finished the MQ on the other), but something along the lines of: "I'm in charge by Divine Right so shut up and go along or I'll shut you up and send you along."

To Nazeem: "Actually I'm heading there now. You want me to drop off your detached head while I'm there? Wait...where are you going?"

To Maven: "Well, most people consider it important whether they're cremated or buried so what's your preference? Quickly now - I don't have all day."

HA! No kidding. At least you have the option of killing him. You can't even kill Delphine.

I wish I could say any kind of personalized response that fits the character I'm playing.
As for a single thing I'd like to say...

"Dammit, Ingun, why don't you tell your rich mother to order a huge shipment of ingredients rather than send out a poor adventurer like me to search for them all over the land?"

(I think only Luna would never say that, though. She already had all the stuff with her, and anyway she wouldn't mind helping a fellow alchemist.)

Yes! in FO3 you could respond based on your skills. If you're good at magic you get intelligence options when talking to other mages. More options if you have a high speechcraft. Or even the ability to see what your % is when attempting a speech craft challenge. But these are just daydreams.

I was surprised that they didn't include some of these things after playing Fallout.

True 'dat. It seems they cut corners in order to release it on 11/11/2011. Shame!

This game shows the %-age, doesn't it? It's been a while since I've had a speech challenge.

My husband just told me that there's a place that shows the pickpocket percentage and I never realized it was there (mind=blown)... So maybe there IS one for speech, but I've never seen it.

This is just a kind of general speech option desire, but have you ever attempted to 'Intimidate' an NPC (usually right after failing the 'Persuade' alternative) and been laughed off with some sort of 'I'm not afraid of you!'-esque reply? Yeah, see, I find it juuust a bit irritating that I can take down a freakin' dragon in under a minute but am apparently considered nonthreatening by a peasant who couldn't even best a mudcrab. If only you could follow up a failed intimidation by Fus Ro Dah-ing your target into submission. "Not afraid of me, huh? YOU SHOULD BE." That would just be SO satisfying.
I also wish I could speak to giants. Even the ability to say, "Hello," would be amazing.

Jarl of Whiterun: I can't even look at your delivery until I solve this dragon problem.
Dova: Bro, it's from Ulfric, take it or don't but if you don't I'm gonna tell him you refused, I'm not trying to save your [censored] from dragons.

Alternately
Dova, to Ulfric: He said he wasn't accepting gifts because he's trippin about dragon, he's a dike lets kill him.

Guard: Why the elven sword? Nord steel not good enough for you?
Dragonborn: (trollface)

And for every NPC that tells you their life story as you pass by them: You assume i care. That's cute. (A quote from Mass Effect, but it works :hehe:)

There should be an option for every conversation in the game to just use Unrelenting Force. Just have it at the bottom of the list of other conversation options.

>Where do you stand on the war?
>Is Whiterun safe from a dragon attack?
>FUS RO DAH

It's true, I wish there were more options, Bioware does a better job of this than Bethesda, but still, they can't go through every conversation and record dialoug for every possibility

The other two aren't so bad - just generally spoiled brats. Of course, THAT one may be channeling a certain daedra....

Unless BW has got a lot better lately, not so. I've been playing NWN1 this week (as it's just about the only game I can get to run anything approaching "playable" on my 8 year old laptop - which is all I have until my real machine gets back from the mfr) and I can say with perfect truth that BW in NWN1 is FAR worse than Beth has ever been.
