Thinking about picking up a PS2...

But I wonder, can it be maintenanced per the years if anything goes wrong? I just read that GameStop is going to stop dealing in PS2 stuff June 1st, an there are a lot of amazing games from the era, not to mention that it was my first console.

So, can it be fixed when it breaks, and is there a reputable dealer selling old games?

R U Game. They repair and have a large selection of games from all generations. I can't recommend it enough.

While they're are some games that are great on the PS2 (I still have mine. It's like 11 years old, still works.), alot of the good series have been remade for the PS3. The Sly Cooper Games, Jack and Dexter, Ratchet and Clank, and the ICO games were all remade for the PS3.

So really, it depends on what games you're looking for. If you're looking to play a bunch of games that are pretty much going to be stuck on the PS2 for ever, then yes, pick it up. But it pretty much the games you're looking at fall within the "remade for PS3" catagories, I'd probably save up my money for the PS3 and get the remade versions.

So yeah, kind of depends.

Until FFX HD actually launches and they announce a Dragon Quest VIII and FFXII HD ports, PS2 stays.
