Third person dual wielding is HORRIBLE.

Post » Thu May 10, 2012 10:06 am

Alright, this is so awkward and ugly.
I am playing a big nord with two axes and steel armor.
Before I tried to sprint, I looked at me in third person combat stance, and thought "wow, why is he holding the axe behind his head like a [censored]". That alone was ugly.
But then I sprinted. Goddamnit, does my character think hes an airplane? Or naruto? This does NOT look okay. It doesnt fit the style of the game at all (maybe if it was some ninjagame where you can only wear katanas it would) but this is just OVER THE TOP. Third person is UNPLAYABLE for me because of that.
The funny thing is, if you move around while in combat stance, not sprinting, it looks perfect. But someone at bethesda decided that if you want to sprint or stand still you must be a ninja.

If you dont know what it looks like, try it yourself. If you dont play as a ninja character, you will want to agree that its HORRIBLE.

(I would like to add that I enjoy the game through and through, except for this. Do not think that I hate the game, and do not call me 'nitpicky', because this is a valid complaint.)

Haha yeah I saw that. Drop dual wielding and get a shield. They're really awesome in this game, specially with the perks.

I want to play as a very offensive berserker who doesnt hide behind a shield, so just using a shield (which looks fine, you are right. Why couldnt they just use a similiar stance/sprinting animation?) is not an option for me.

Kind of a little and rash thing to complain about and let it ruin the game for you, but honestly i wouldnt go running with a axe pointed towards my chest. maybe the running looks a bit funky but thats just a opinion

Thanks for not even trying to read that part

Anyways, http://images.cosplay.com/photos/26/2668729.jpg is exactly how it looks.
Go in the game, run (not sprint) while dual wielding and look at it in third person. Looks perfect. Not 'chest pointed towards chest' either.

Well first of all, if you know TES, you should know it's never been designed as a third person game. So stop expecting it to be the greatest third person game.

I love how people pick a thread they just could ignore if they didnt care but instead call the OP nitpicky and make comparisons with nazis
do you know godwins law?

@sm0keasaurusr3x
That is right, but that its not that those animations are BAD. They ARE well made.

Its just that they dont fit at all and theyre ridiculous.

but if I were to shoot someone you cant arrest me.
Youre not the cop.

Youre not the mod here, you are not the one to judge over topics and say 'THIS TOPIC IS NOT NEEDED. YOU ARE JUST NITPICKY'.
You either contribute or ignore it, if its really a bad topic the mods can decide. What you do here is making a totally useless comment. It wont stop bothering me because you call me nitpicky.

Lets get back on topic.

Have you ever run while wielding sharp instrumanets of death? Not exactly something i want close to my body while running. Also holding them out like that actually improves your balance which is offset by the two weapons.

so you want to tell me that http://i.imgur.com/O5a9N.jpg is dangerous and unreasonable and unrealistic while http://i.imgur.com/RXk1f.jpg makes sense and doesnt look like the guy is trying too hard to be a ninja?

The third person combat stance while dual wielding is also really weird when just standing there.
Why would you lift the axe up behind your head? Its heavy. Would make much more sense if it looked similiar to the first picture

I'm not sure about the berserkers, but the Vikings (regular troops) usually used long one-handed axe or spear + shield, and most berserkers used shields (look at the small berserker hnefatafl statues, biting their shields), so it wouldn't be wrong ;)

Berserkers are called berserkers because they went to battle with nothing but weapon and bear hides (ber zerker). They did most certainly NEVER use shields because that would go against their very definition

To begin, yes i'd rather, if I were just running while wielding 2 weapons, rather have them away from my body. What if you trip? Having that axe so close could spell disaster.

Secondly, in reply to your stating that beserkr never used shields
"This fury, which was called berserkergang, occurred not only in the heat of battle, but also during laborious work. Men who were thus seized performed things which otherwise seemed impossible for human power. This condition is said to have begun with shivering, pvssyring of the teeth, and chill in the body, and then the face swelled and changed its colour. With this was connected a great hot-headedness, which at last gave over into a great rage, under which they howled as wild animals, [bit the edge of their shields], and cut down everything they met without discriminating between friend or foe. When this condition ceased, a great dulling of the mind and feebleness followed, which could last for one or several days."
Source: Howard D. Fabing. "On Going Berserk: A Neurochemical Inquiry." Scientific Monthly. 83 [Nov. 1956] p. 232

Note the part in the box. They did use shield and sword or spear as did most of Norse society. Axes were primarily used for the raiding vikings due to them being useful tools as well on a boat.

Believe me, I'm pretty knowledgeable about them. Just check this old poem, taken from wikipedia:

I'll ask of the berserks, you tasters of blood,
Those intrepid heroes, how are they treated,
Those who wade out into battle?
Wolf-skinned they are called. In battle
They bear bloody shields.
Red with blood are their spears when they come to fight.
They form a closed group.
The prince in his wisdom puts trust in such men
Who hack through enemy shields

And it likely comes from "b?r s?rk" - "wears shirt" basically.

Google "berserker hnefatafl" in the images section to see what I meant regarding the chess pieces. According to the legend, Oden's warriors would bite their shields in madness before battle.

dual wield would be cool, if you could favorite a shield also. That whey, you could strike the enemy, and also when the moment comes, you could shield bash or summit!

Light armor isn't the life for me, but I see how it can make a man feel on these games!

Edit: Whoa! That's awes[pome!
