Third person view..

Post » Thu May 10, 2012 10:27 pm

Yes, the animation is not Uncharted-level. Yes, there's jank here and there. Yes, some floating issues here and there.

But still, looking back at Oblivion, the improvement is insane. I'm playing 80% of the time in 3rd person view. Stealthing is so much more fun, the level of immersion is fantastic once you can see yourself actually traveling through the environments, and combat actually feels better - stuff like charged attacks, shield bashes and so on expecially.

I still do stuff in first person view - archery, looting and talking mostly - but I'm playing a TES game in 3rd person view, and it's great. I'd never thought it would happen.

completely agree , i'm very surprised but i've ended up spending a lot of time in third person view , never did in oblivion. Really is great running around the world in 3rd person . So many great things about this game.

I do not like first person it makes me sick to my stomach, I struggled with the first escape and trying to fight in first is not good for me. I love third person and I love seeing Kyrhyraeth and Cael'leach kick ass!

Cheer cheer OP!

I agree too! I made a poll a day or so ago asking what view people were mostly playing in but no-one answered it. I figured everyone was playing in 1st person and thought I was crazy for asking ;)

I mainly play in FPV but I'm finding myself contatnly changing to TPV in towns because the character animation and details looks very good.

I play third person most the time. I like to look at my character. I change into 1st person only when picking stuff up or sometime in combat such as shooting arrows / fireballs etc

Yes, it makes me feel nauseous. I couldn't even watch videos of the game before it came out. All but one were done in 1st person and they made me ill within seconds. I had to stop watching them. I can't watch my Significant Other play in 1st person either.

I`ve been playing purely in 3rd person and love it! Combat finishers blend in fine with it.

There is one small detail that I don't like about the third-person view. In Oblivion, in third-person view, you could rotate the camera around to the front of your character. You could then hit your 'walk backwards' key, and your character would smoothly turn around and start walking in that direction.

In Skyrim, however, if you try this your character instantly flips around and starts walking, with no smooth 'turning' animation. It's like your character is facing forward and then POOF! they're facing the other way.

Also, in Oblivion, I liked being able to run with my weapons drawn and rotate the camera around my guy. You can't do that in Skyrim.

Hmph, I guess that's two small details instead of one! Either way, though, Skyrim is great!

Agreed.
Though, on console, it took some time to figure the mapping of zoom in/out. I almost waved the bug flag when my character's back gradually took up 4/5ths of the screen.
If anyone else has issues, the mapping is:
1. Press down on RS (right stick)
2. Move LS (left stick)...Forward to zoom in/Backward to zoom out.

I was so used to alternating triggers that I was slowly driving myself to conniption.
Note: The game automatically zooms out a bit from your character when you draw your weapon in 3rd person.
This isn't exactly bad when attacked by multiple foes.
However, if it isn't to your liking, simply repeat the steps above whilst weapon is drawn to your desired range of view.

Hope that helps. Now GO PLAY! :wavey:

Yes, ikt does, thank you! I was wondering how to do it and was sure there was some way. But i still wonder why my character is sometimes on the left side of the screen and sometimes in the middle.

I do. A LOT in fact. It's to a point I travel the world with Candlelight at my side and fight in 3rd person view. I even..shoot my bow in third person with rather proper accuracy!

This! I couldn't figure out why everything suddenly got more zoomed in. It seemed fine at first, but then slowly my character started taking up the whole screen. I will have to try this when I get home.

If you have a headache in FPV you should try changing field of view by opening a console in game and typing ---> fov XX (where XX is a number, most commonly used is 90). The result is that the camer zooms out a bit so you actuall see your fists holding swords. I still play most of the time in TPV.

The option to switch back and forth is one thing Ive always loved. And Skyrim makes it just that much better to play in third person.

I tend to spend most of my time in 3rd person view, it's just easier to see things around you. Besides, I like to see my character. The only thing in 3rd person view I am not fond of is how close the view is while your weapons are sheathed. I feel like view should stay at the unsheathed distance because it makes seeing things around you easier.

I agree, Ii'm usually in first person to loot and to move around dungeons, but as soon as i start fighting I switch to 3rd and it looks much better than I thought it would.

You know you can move thne camera very far from your character? I don't know if you are playing with a pad but if you are click the right anolog and then with the left one you can place the camera where you want it.
