This bug takes a lot of the fun away from archers

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 2:01 pm

This happens WAY to often. I know it's hard to see on the video, but some of the shots would have hit for sure...hopes badly that this will be fixed somehow.

Coming from a fellow archer, it's not a glitch.. you just have bad aim. You aren't aiming correctly at all and its no surprise at all that you aren't hitting your target...

Arrows have a very low arc in this game compared to Oblivion or other games with bows, even when your target is miles away you still don't need to aim into the air. if you aim your shot based on this you will have more luck.

Thank you knower of all that is obvious.

How about some helpful input next time.

OP, I suggest you aim lower.

Sorry but times I've been able to follow an arrows path visualy (much closer than the video is) I've literally seen arrows go through my enemies. I mean seriously if I aim for the upper torso of a giant it's impossible to miss, but I do no damage?

There is a problem with the archery, I personally believe they just added some arbitrary range limit.

You should make the video again with a mammoth so it's more clear that you're not missing. Arrows frequently despawn midflight on long distance shots. Something that didn't happen in Oblivion.

Hmm, the one bug (if you wanna call it that) when playing archer is when you are firing at enemies that can see you. Specifically I have noticed against bandits, town guards, and imperials is that when you shoot an arrow at them, they magically teleport, or move like freaking lighting out the of the way. I mean seriously, it's like they teleport as soon as your arrow is released, it is super lame.

Isn't one of the archery perks a bow overdraw? So that if you wish for long distance archery, you need that perk?

Sorry, I didn't realize aiming was [censored] rocket science... It's called keep shooting until you hit your target, and adjust accordingly.. Jeez, I dunno how half you people made it back from the store with this game without getting lost..

I have done the same thing with mammoths and other creatures. And also, when this bug happens, to be sure, one can try to blast a fireball at the enemy, it will go straight through. This IS a bug or whatever, it's not me who needs to learn to aim.

Also, my second last shot is aimed directly at his face, so you, who said I aim too high, I don't. My second last shot landed at his feet, I was able to follow it all the way by eyesight.

Wait, it was actually the wrong video I posted. Just wait for an hour or two, I will post the correct. It's the same situation, but in this you can see one of the arrows had got to go straight through.

No, no it isn't.. If it was a bug, it would be affecting everyone, or even a small percent of the players.. It's only effecting the percent who doesn't know how to aim, (I watched your video, and you were way off.. You "think" you know how to aim, but really have no clue.. You are aiming incorrectly, and that is that.. If you hadn't posted that vid, people might believe you but, no.. Just no..) So I suggest you stop whining about a non-existent bug, and go learn how to aim.. Because they are never going to patch something that doesn't exist...

I think you're overestimating the drop of the arrow. At first, I thought it was a bug as well, but then I lowered my aim. However, there have been shots that I most definitely should have missed that still hit the target.

Just wait for the new video, I'll have it ready in an hour, then you'll see. Cuz, yes, my aim was bad in that video, that's why I made two, I just uploaded the wrong one. My fault...

I've fired long range shots that should have hit. I know this because i will sneak over to that mob and check. I've literally had multiple arrows sitting in the wall a foot behind the mob exactly where his chest is. I did NOT miss this mob, the game glitched.

EDIT
To clarify the situation even more when i've checked for these arrows i sneak around and did not kill the mob. So he was standing there with arrows in the wall directly behind his chest.

Yeah, you don't need to arc your shot in Skyrim as much as in Oblivion, considering the arrows in Skyrim travel faster and have less of a drop rate. Shame really, considering it actually took judgement and skill in Oblivion to land a long distance shot. I used to make a sport of shooting at monsters on distant hills from standing on top of Battlehorn Castle. Some of the shots i made were just unbelievable.
I have noticed a bug involving stealth and long range shots though. You shoot and hit a target from stealth, and they just sit there and don't do crap while you peg them repetitively with sneak attacks, and this is at a low level of unperked Stealth. It's like at a certain range their AI just ceases functioning and they become target dummies.

Actually you're just an asshat and you're wrong. I've fired long range shots that should have hit. I know this because i will sneak over to that mob and check. My copy of the game does not glitch this way. I have never fired a shot that I saw hit and the enemy took no damage. I am not saying you are missing each time, only that I have not observed what you are observing. Currently I am using a bow with a frost enchantment so the enemy gets a white glow when I hit.

Yep, but it must be embarrassing when one is SO wrong but thinks he's SO right. That's actually the funny part of his comment.

But you guys who experience these problems, please try to fire a fireball at them and see if that goes through, too. And then come back here, can't test it myself.
