Is this game all combat and no story?

It looks like this game is all combat and no story. I can't find one video where the characters in game actually talk. How do you talk with people in this game? Dialogue options? Can you RP a character? Or is the entire game just kill this person, rinse, repeat?

It sounds like the story is pre-set. It's not an RPG, nor open world, so any in-depth dialogue is rather pointless. The skinny of the story being you are a personal bodyguard accused of killing the person you were sworn to protect.

Becaused they haven't revealed a lot of story and only snippets and you haven't watched a lot of videos.

What does that even mean "rather pointless"? The dialogue is a driving factor and very important to the plot and fleshing out the world.

Sounds like you only watched the gameplay trailer. I believe there is going to be a fairly heavy story focus; one which is partly determined by what you choose to do. It may not be open-world, but that doesn't mean your actions don't mean anything.

Truth is, I don't think we'll know for certain until the game comes out.

Well, we actually do due to recent videos and interviews that have been coming out. Not to mention the achievements show a lot of story aspects we don't know about + the fact that we just recently learned about the gasmask guys' role in the game is bigger than just another enemy type. The team have focused a lot on every aspect of the game including narrative. After all the core mechanics are tied in with the narrative and the progression of the story. Your choices decide the outcome so story is a huge part of the game.

I am only following the videos and I am in the impression that:
we are framed
we are approached by people who give us abilities and missions to help us to take our revenge. They don't care how we do it or they care and they are assessing us on how we act.
There are different end games based on how we played, who we killed or spared.
And there is a girl who is kidnapped, I think.

So there is definitely a story here, complete with multiple endings.

we are framed

Correct! The Spy Master has organized a conspiracy to overthrow the Empress and kidnap her daughter in order for him to become the Lord Regent of Dunwall.

we are approached by people who give us abilities and missions to help us to take our revenge. They don't care how we do it or they care and they are assessing us on how we act.

After you are framed you are aided in a rescue attempt by a group of conspirators. Once you escape you go to their hideout and due to all the exhaustion take a well deserved nap. In your dreams the Outsider approaches you and gives you the Blink ability for free and marks your left hand. He also tells you how to gain more power by gathering runes and bone charms and upgrade your skills. You receive missions from the people who helped your escape and before you start a mission you are in a HUB area where you can talk to them, restock on ammo and gadgets and purchase upgrades. Runes and Bone Charms are found in missions only and can be equipped immedietely.

There are different end games based on how we played, who we killed or spared.

Yes, depending on who you kill your Chaos in the game will rise and the bigger it is the darker the ending. You can go through the game without killing anyone and will in turn receive the "best" ending for it. Chaos also affects conversations and character behaviors.

It's got a great story, right up there with Le Misirable, Oliver Twist and Great Expectations.
