Is this game all it's cracked out to be?

Post » Fri May 11, 2012 12:08 pm

After the intial wow factor, the game keeps going down hill for me the more I play. Anyone else feel the same? Take away the frills, and is it really much better or different than Oblivion?

This game is amazing. I have not been disappointed in the slightest. In fact, my expectations have been exceeded by a large margin.

Skyrim's got the "feel" that you get when you know you're looking at true art.

Morrowind had the feel.

Oblivion lost it.

Skyrim has it.

That is all.

Skyrim is a great game.

However, it is not everything it was cracked up to be before the release.

Ahh.. a cracked out game is a good game, if you ask me.

Yeah the game is a lot like Oblivion, but I hope you learned that when you saw 'V' next to it, knowing that Oblivion was IV.

And yes its amazing.

The game is incredible and the standard that ALL other RPG's should be measured. With all due respect, you understand that the NPC's in this game are unscripted and that their reaction or lack thereof to you and your interactions will be different for EVERYONE? NO 2 playthroughs are the same...except for specific, story-centric moments.

It's mostly what I expected. A little disappointed in combat and UI, but I kind of knew there'd be issues there(although I'm still facepalming over the fact that they still overdid level scaling, and brought back fortify skill of all the things from Morrowind they could've brought back). Amazing game world, as I also expected since it's Bethesda strength.
It was overhyped maybe, but it's still the best release of the year IMO, hands down.

If it were not for the texture problems and the fact that the text is unreadable and the screen is cut off on the edges, and the lack of hotkeys on the d pad, this game would have exceeded my expectations for sure.
For now though, it's just a healthy addiction.

I think it is on about the same level of all the hype it got. There are somethings that could have been improved but to list them is just nitpicking. I don't think the menus are really an improvement from Oblivion and they are vague on some of the quest details. I have noticed things aren't always listed alphabetically in containers, there are some glitches, and I felt some of the quests would have had more epic endings. These are all pretty minor though and don't really take away from the amazing experience.

The combat system doesn't seem too much different aside from some cinematic killing blows, but its enough to make the combat much better than Oblivion and combat has never been a big thing for TES. Overall it isn't too different from Oblivion, but why try to fix something that wasn't really broken? Seems for the most part they took the polishness from Oblivion and the atmospehere from Morrowind and made Skyrim (like reaze said).

Overall I'd say it could have been better but still surpasses other RPGs by a large margin and keeps TES series a classic.

It is most certainly not worth the 9/10 and 10/10 scores apparently written by TES fanbois that work as "game reviewers".

It's addictive and immersive, but also a natural progression from Oblivion. I really want Bethesda to exit their comfort zone and try something different with TESVI because these kind of game mechanics have gotten a bit stale. I want another jump like Daggerfall to Morrowind, something drastic.

I want something new and drastic also.

In TES VI, you should have to charge after the last remaining dragon, who remained hidden in an underground cave during Skyrim, through a Daedric portal. Upon exiting the portal, you find yourself in the modern world of Earth, where you discover Daedra have found a breach between dimensions and are trying to claim Earth as their new realm.

Along with this, large breaches have pulled entire sections of Tamriel into Earth, dropping a large section of Morrowind on top of New York.

Warriors will find work as bar bouncers, Assassins as repomen, and Mages as Physics Instructors when not battling evil creatures and lawyers.

Um, no. Lionhead is already working on ruining RPGs. We don't need Beth to try their hand at it too.

I have found it to be the best ES game to date, the world seems to be much more "alive" with things flapping/scratching about everywhere. The diversity in the landscape is a breath of fresh air and the panorama's from some of the tall peaks is truly inspiring. My first foray into the ES universe was Morrowind on the XBOX and whilst I finished Oblivion rather quickly on the 360 I think I will take my time with this game, drink in all that is has to offer and enjoy my time in the world instead of ploughing through the main quests.

It's Oblivion with a more interesting story, but with some gameplay/skills taken out. I'd rather play this than Oblivion, but I wouldn't say it was any better overall.

Lol, no. There are elements to the game that are not scripted, but a LARGE portion of the game is scripted and will be very similar on your second play through.

Still doesn't keep it from being the best gaming purchase in a LONG time.
