Hey guys. I was wondering if there was anyone out here that could assist me. I had a terrible virus and other associated nasty things on my computer which ultimately caused me to to do an entire reinstall of windows to clean everything up. I uninstalled and reinstalled windows successfully though it took a while. I have been able to get everything back onto my computer the way that I want it except Skyrim.

I downloaded the game from the disk onto my computer took 20ish minutes. I then downloaded the update. I then validated my game files. But yet when ever I try to launch the game I get this message: "This game is currently unavailable. Please try again at another time." I don't know what else to do. :brokencomputer: Steam says that I have the game up to date and in my library but yet it still will not launch. :banghead:

Does anyone have any suggestions as how to get back into Skyrim? I do miss it terribly. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

steams/Skyrim are still doing something in the background.. Make sure no more downloads are happening within steam.
Reboot your computer.. then re-loads Steam... wait a bit then try re-launch. You may need to re-run the launcher after
new update.

Also you should download and install free Spybot search and destroy (Not beta 2.0 one) Version 1.6.2
Spybot is a free, very well known that will help keep your computer safe, and spyware free along with your own Anti Virus protection..

1) Download spybot from http://www.safer-networking.org/en/spybotsd/index.html
2) Install and update..
3) when installing do not click to install goggle add on bars or the Tea Timer ( Tea timer uncheck marks)
4) once updated, It immunize system. This will help protect your browsers (IE,Firefox/Opra etc) and will stop spy-ware and some viruses from even installing
5) Then click Search and destory.. Let do a scan and any spywear will be delt with.

Note: Some time update will not work if you select a server that is busy. You can cancel and go right into Spybot and still click update..

I have been using Spybot since Windows 95 came out and for free software they work very well. I believe I found
about then on CNN or something like that looooong ago..

Okie. Thank you for the helpful response. As far as I can tell steam isn't downloading anything else, but I have yet to restart my computer so I will do that and report back. Thank you. I hope it works. Back in a few minutes.

A couple things. First of all, probably not for this time around but if you ever need to re-install again, it would be considerably faster to run the install from the disk instead of downloading. Keep in mind this is ONLY if you have the physical install disk. From the Steam website:

Using Steam launch options to install retail games from disc

Log in to Steam and click on Library.
Right-click on the game, select Delete local content, and confirm.
Insert the first disc into your computer.
Close Steam (Steam > Exit).
Press Windows Key + R to open Run
In the Run window type:

"C:\Program Files\Steam\Steam.exe" -install E:

Replace E: with the CD/DVD drive you are installing from if is not correct.
Replace C:\Program Files\Steam if your Steam installation is not in the default location.
Press OK. Steam will launch and ask you to sign in if you do not have your password saved. Your installation should continue from the disc.
For me on Windows 7 I had to change that to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe" -install E:" since that is where steam installs. Probably Vista too. Also, E: is the drive letter of the CDROM drive you have your disk on, so that might need to be changed as well.

As for your current situation, I ran into a snag where Steam would not download a replacement EXE, so the launcher would work, but running the game wouldn't. To fix that I went into Steam, right-clicked Skyrim in my games library and hit "properties," then on the Local Files tab clicked "Verify Integrity of Game Cache."

After that Steam stopped being lame and downloaded the 1.3 update properly and now I can play.

Thank you for the responses guys but I still can't log into the game. I loaded the game up via the disk and verified the gmae cache. I just updated my drivers as well. But I am still getting the same message. I am going to try and uninstall and reinstall skyrim again and see if that helps.

Any other suggestions? I am one sad panda. :sadvaultboy:

Um... all you REALLY have to do, is close Steam, delete the ClientRegistry.blob file located in Steam's folder, then restart Steam.

Edit: Hey mods... why don't you sticky a post for Steam's "This game is currently not available, please try again later..."? I seem to be the only one in the forums who knows how to fix it.

The reinstall did not help. I don't understand what is causing the hold up. It is so frustrating to have purchased the game disc and not be able to just pop the disc in and play the game off of it. The game is installed on my computer but yet something with steam is holding me up. Sorry, but I am just very frustrated. This game is so much better on the computer but sometimes I wonder if dealing with steam is worth the hassle.

Anyways, now that I vented a bit if anyone has any other advice I'd appreciate it. :brokencomputer:

Ok thank you for the advice I will try this too. But I am looking at all of the steam stuff in my computer and I do no see ClientRegistry.blob. I searched steam in Local Disk C and and I get a ton of steam related stuff and I was just wondering where that particular file is hidden. I appreciate the help.

As I remember, the three patches (four if you count the "stealth patch") so far amount to over 400Mb. Are you sure you have finished downloading the patches before trying to play?

I just made a post for it, in all caps. Maybe a mod will sticky it so people with this problem (it seems to be common) will know what to do.
It's in c:\Program Files (x86)\Steam

Well Skyrim is listed in my games library as ready to play. How else could I determine if I was still downloading? Oh and I am still looking for ClientRegistry.blob.

Your folder may be hidden.
What version of Windows are you using?

Did you make sure that Skyrim was fully un-installed? The folder was deleted? as in going to default folder of steam
and making sure that there is no Skyrim.. I get the feeling that a) didn't finish downloading and/or installing. Perhaps download was
pasued and or can't connect, so when trys to update it fails? just an idea..

as said best to install with CD dish you got first.. You may want even think about full un-installing steam too. But before you do that.
Make sure any other steams games you have, you may want back them up.. If this apply to you..

My suggestion is..
a) uninstall Skyrim... default folder is -

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\skyrim (for Windows Xp 64/ Vista 64 / Win 7 64 users)
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\skyrim ( for windows 32bit/ Win xp/Vista/Win 7)

B) un-install Steam fully too..

c) Make sure your computer current location/Time/date on your computer is correct also (this has happen to me few times too)
So make sure it set to right country and what not.. I assume your in USA? so that shouldn't be issue.

d) reboot.. make sure steam is not loading up after reboot.. if it is, you do have very bad issue there..

e) re-download steam https://store.steampowered.com/login/ and install

after that.. log in, and some people say its best to install via DVD/CD's.. but you could try installing right from steam
too, but if you have slow internet connection. this could take a while to re-download.. and you will not be able to play intill its fully
downloaded..

or just install via Disc and go from there..

I hope your computer/windows and drivers are all update .. my bet is your clock/date/time maybe out syn... that could be the issue
Good luck.

I just re downloaded steam but all I did to uninstall it was use the uninstall wizard I didn't go through and manually delete anything. Right now I am downloading the game again from the disc. Once that is done I am going to see if I can find this ClientRegistry.blob and delete that.

I guess if that doesn't work I will go through and do it manually as you stated. Oh and I am in US, clock is in sync, and I am running Vista (unfortunately).

I deleted the clientregistry and it just reappears the moment I tell steam to restart. This is so frustrating. It would of been less of a headache to just have gotten this game for the xbox. I HATE relying on steam.

I just wanted to thank all of those that tried to help. Too bad for me it isn't working and I am losing the energy to continue to mess with this. Thank you again guys. But this is definitely the last game I buy for the PC. Yes there are mods, and way better graphics, but the absolute ridiculousness of not being able to play the game I bought and have sitting next to me is too much.

You guys are great but steam svcks.

Whenever I get the unavailable message I just run steam in offline mode and it works every time. The game also loads faster

Go to View>Downloads in the Steam client. Almost every game I have downloaded or connected to Steam has the Play button enabled within seconds of purchase, it doesn't mean you can actually play. This includes the King Arthur Midweek Madness Deal I purchased today and is still downloading.
