THIS GAME IS A FREAKIN' MESS. A justified rant?

Post » Fri Jun 11, 2010 1:00 pm

Crytek are well aware of the numerous issues with this game in its current (glaringly unfinished) state, therefore I'm not going to waste my time talking about the countless negative experiences due to technical issues I've had whilst online. Needless to say, connectivity and LAG are top of the list - matches are often a complete and utter joke. How the game was allowed to ship in such a state (especially after a so-called freakin' 'beta' period) is absolutely baffling.

So, I wish to draw attention to the horrible, awful, UNACCEPTABLE developer feedback (or lack of) on this, the game's official message board. It's pathetically bad, it really is. Look at how a developer like Bungie responds to issues on their own website - it blows this Crytek PR novice rubbish away. Even updates on the main page here are practically none existent.

WE ARE IN THE DARK. WE SHOULDN'T BE. You expect us to be patient? Fine, then at least ACKNOWLEDGE THE COMMUNITY and give us REGULAR updates on patch progress and ETA. Let us know PRECISELY which problems are being addressed. If some known issues won't be fixed in a short term update, LET US KNOW WHICH ONES. REASSURE US. You're not allowed to divulge information? THAT'S NOT OUR PROBLEM. Crytek are nothing to me, I don't owe them my loyalty; they must EARN it - exactly the same way other, smart developers do. It's not our (the customers) fault that the game doesn't work properly, it's CRYTEK's. It's not our fault that information is not permitted to be shared regarding future patches at this time, it's CRYTEK's. Failing that, their publisher. DO NOT DARE EXPECT ME TO 'WAIT IT OUT'. The game has been out for TWO WEEKS. Update us or watch how quickly this game falls off the chart. It's simple. Look what happened with Gears of War 2...

AND FIX THAT F**KING LOUD MUSIC BUG IN THE MULTIPLAYER LOBBY, IT WAKES MY DAUGHTER UP.

+ 1 to everything you've said. It's a complete disaster, this game. They would want to fix this fairly quickly. If not Crytek, don't bother releasing Crysis 3 on the 360.

If you think people on the 360 will buy C3 after playing this you may want to reconsider your predictions Crytek.

Totally agree. Crysis 2 it's nearly a big fail. It could have been so epic. I imagine Crysis 2 with the Halo A.I... just a dream. I'm very disappointed and my hatred towards EA is gettin'bigger and bigger.

Imagine Crysis with Halo connections, **** me that will be the day.

They've capped it at 12 players and it still lags, What an epic NetCode fail.

Gee what can I say that hasn't been put in exclamation marks and underlined.

I need another run through of TD..f*****g U2 to really feel the love.

What we are see here people is a meltdown of the gaming industry as we once knew it.

The fantasy horror has become reality in a far less promising re-enactment of Appocalypse NOW starring all our once favoured and adored best seller titiles in gaming heaven.

Unfortunately those who were at the top of the game developer field yester-year, have retired into the netherworld of Wonderland and bask in the sun on an unnamed island.

Those who have risen to the occasion are less adept in ethical pedigree and are an allsorts development agency for limelight and sparkle in the talented 'want-to-be seen but haven't quite got the knack', world of game design.

So we can gripe about the miscalculations and less than seemless processes we'd expect to be really easy because its 'been done'. But its not likely that we will see any improvement for some time. Like TDU2, it took their development team 3 weeks to release a patch. And players didnt hear a peep out of TDU2's development team for the entire period even though they were getting slam dunked daily by unhappy customers including myself.

What this does for gaming is not a great deal.

But really, it wont even scratch the surface of loss to an industry that has the upper hand and controls what you and I deem entertaining. At the moment this is like getting a run of 'B' grade movies. Console games have brought cinema fantasy to life and allowed you to play the leading role. But you are pay for the priveldge.

Whilst we can critique the desireable need through experience of gaming, there is a far more perplexing question - Are we asking too much? And are we seeing this recent alotment of failures as a sign that developers are trying too hard?, and should they really be making games that are a little less demanding on server design or of graphic rendering neccessities, or of object detail and environmental effect.

I can rememeber a game called Moriah for Xbox (not 360)that was an FPS much like the leaps and bounds of what we are seeing for xbox360 now. It had beatuful graphics but it didnt rely on huge multiplayer sessions and complex arena's full of detailed rendering models. It was a good FPS that you could play aginst your friends without all the bells and whistles.

If players could realise that there is a limit to what a CPU processor can process in a given millisecond, they'd probably forsake the graphic quality for better multiplayer options. but then we are at the hands of the developer, and they are going to release what they feel is going to be a marginal seller at the given time of release, as this is purely becoming a huge money-pit for the rich who continue to squander anything that has something good to give to the majority. basically they screw it up because their ideas are demanding of things that are not good for the industry. And the end result destroys the goodness of decent developers and programmers and makes a mass market framework that paumps out average titles for a song. We are already starting to see this - you cant stopp a runaway train. The only title I can trully say that has not fallen trap to this demise is HALO, and thats because its a leading production crew which is bsically untouchable by the vultures of capitalism and so called democracy.

Its a "freaking mess" is an understatement if you want to have another look, dig a bit deeper and you'll realise taht people have to survive in this industry, but the money is being spread so thin that good developers and game designeres can make better money elsewhere and are doing so because their industry is being swallowed up by multinational consortium cash-cows who have no interest in the industry of gaming other than improving their dividend at the cash-register of 'killing the competiton'.

NOT that this thread will get any developer feedback = I'd ask that developers move away from simulated cutscreen movies and discern what they are trying to depict when they release a new title. Why make a movie cutscreen tag-along like Homefront being led by the hand in an FPS - lame. The graphics is o.k. and that make a big difference in multiplayer for somewhat seemless play. It also hasnt pushed the limits of objects inside maps which helps a great deal when looking at LAG issues. But it falls short of being what it was presented as in the monthts leading up to release.

Here I advise that from now on we dont get hyped up on smalltalk and advertising crap that may or may not be tossed in the 'bag of hot air bin', and instead wait for the suprize parcel to arrive with anticipation of something astoundingly better but with less pomp and glamour tahn we've given in teh past. Itss also time we changed our outrageous exagerated desire for better, when its obviously apparent that there has been a change in the quality of game releases. This is enough to say we are asking too much.

Amongst the inane rambling I did discern some sense and agreement in what you said. Don't really know what all that had to do with Crysis 2, though.

I like the game but the Multi-player is a JOKE. They should have called "Spraying and Praying with Lots of Lag", seriously whats the point of MP? Is there any chance connection issues are going to be addressed?

No, I read it. The original point of my post was merely to draw attention to the unacceptable lack of developer feedback on their game's forum.

March 31 is when the update came out and every thing that was on the list was fixed. So get your dam built and cry a river why dont you. READ PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So explain to me then why this game still runs like **** online? At the moment it feels like every 1 in 10 servers I join are hosted in Indonesia. Hit detection is horrible. By comparison; Halo Reach feels like a 100% lag-free experience (which it isn't, actually... not quite).

Moreover, where is the official post regarding the patch by the developer on the main news page? It's non-existent. Pathetic.

If there's one thing I can't stand (and it doesn't help anyone), it's apologists like you.

I will agree with CaptainQuint .. not a great deal has been fixed..

Im not usually one for coming to official boards for games but feel its justified for this game as it has potential just the whole PR thing with Crytek is terrible and complaints and bugs are being mentioned nigh on everyday now and agree with the OP entirely.
