So is this game worth it?

Post » Thu Dec 19, 2013 11:21 am

I spoke to a good friend of mine about a month ago who told me to "wait before buying this game."

I was extremely excited about it and I'm waiting until it comes out to buy a PS4 and play it.

The guy mentioned, because the MMO I play is World of Warcraft, that there isn't going to be much to do at first. He said there's a lot of quests for WoW right now but there won't be a lot of quests for ESO until later. He said WoW has about 10x the quests and counting that ESO will have when it's released. So they'll have a lot of catching up to do.

He didn't sound very impressed and this is the type of guy who knows his video games.

I'm not even exactly sure whether to believe him or not, but I was kind of disappointed by how he was talking about it. The idea that I can mold a character into anything I want, such as a heavily armored Battlemage still interests me.

I'm not trying to attack the game before it's released, I'm just trying to figure out what your thoughts on it, because I haven't been following it since he told me that.

I have some reservations about the game myself, but your... guy... is throwing made up numbers at you.

But if you're going to wait until the PS4 version, it really doesn't matter. There will be at least two months of solid, public feedback on the game by the time that happens, so it will be easy to tell if it is worth picking up or not. Especially the subpar console versions.

WoW is a 10 year old game. Your friend came up with a really bad argument to not play this game. I would say he really doesn't know anything about video games if that will be his point.

Comparing WoW isn't really a fair comparison. Its almost 10 years old. That means it has a bunch of expansions and content added during that almost a full decade, whereas TESO just came out. No there probably won't be as much content, not even close, but when TESO is as old as that game then you can expect that there will be.

Agreed.

And because you're waiting for the PS4 version, the game will already be two months into development AFTER the release, so you should have plenty of time to read the reviews and get feedback from players who are actually playing the game.

When ESO releases, you will have your character's MQ to get their soul back. Not sure about how much gameplay that is... Then you have your initial alliance's area to explore and complete all of that content, which is estimated to be around 130 hrs or so pending your playstyle.

Once that is completed, you should be at level 50. Then you can enter another alliance's area and experience all of that content, which is another 100-130 hrs. Then you can migrate into the third alliance area and explore all of that content for yet another 100+ hrs.

Plus you have the entire PVP area of Cyrodiil to explore. Who know's how many hrs you can spend in there? By that time some new content could be released in an update, as it is said to come out every 4-6 weeks, according to current plans. So by the time it hits the consoles, you will have plenty to do.

Because coming to a forum full of fans because your friend said its bad for an answer means you are looking for more than an answer, you are looking for affirmation. Play the game and stop being swayed by other people

Don't believe your friend, believe your own mind - hopefully this game will be very dissimilar to WoW and therefore not even a viable comparison.

Seriously, just wait till the Open Beta starts and play the game yourself and decide. Never good to go off what other people say. You are the only one who can decide if you like a game or not.

this is the best answer imo. the question itself will have a different answer based on who you are. for me the answer is a very simple yes. for others its a clear no. try it out during open beta and see for yourself
