This is kind of thing makes me angry

Post » Thu Nov 15, 2012 8:10 pm

I hate, hate, hate being kept in the dark. I don't like how developers do this, by giving us some information but not all the information regarding the product they are putting out. There was an article on a video game website (it shall remain nameless) that basically said that the video game industry is one of the few industries that still keeps people in the dark when it comes to their products.

Imagine if the car industry did this.

Buyer: What does this button do?

Car Salesman: No, no, don't touch that. Its a secret. We'll only reveal to you what it does if you buy the car.

Buyer: Goodbye

Seriously. Tell me everything that Hearthfire is going to have, details, how things work so I can make a god-blessed informed decision about buying it, so I know what kind of frigging product I'm getting. How does the crafting work? More marriage options? Which children are going to be able to be adopted? Are there new children out there? I don't understand this, at all.

Its like all the video games developers are your stupid aunt who insists on throwing you surprise birthday parties when you hate them.

/end rant

Frustrated is probably a better word. Sorry. I just don't understand this habitual language of secrecy that video game developers have with their fans. Its proven that those companies who involve and talk with their fans are raking in millions. Notch anyone?

If you want a full report of what is happening wait for the release then read the wikias. They usually have info straight away.

You use wrong example: for a car that have not yet release the market it won't have all details to public yet.

Once it is released to the market you will start finding more information about it

You do have a point this whole forum at the moment is based on speculation and hearsay. I was counting on some people blindly buying it and hear what they have say about it next week, I'll have plenty of time like 30 days to hear all the reviews, at $5 many people aren't even going to blink before they buy.

To build hype and not spoil everything.

Hype leads to wild expectations that the product won't or can't deliver, just wait for the flame threads next week when some of those realisations happen.

Pretty much this^

Cant believe this topic is even a topic. Patience is a virtue. Once its out, youll get plenty from the customers who have it. If you need to know every single thing every DLC does or has before you buy it, then you should try and develop some patience instead of ranting on the internet because you have none.

i could never understand way game dev do that specially with dlcs, people like me who buys every dlc for games i play will getting the dlcs no matter what and those people who are unsure if they should get it will most likely will wait for couple days after release day to find out more info before they make up their minds. So to me its super lame on dev part to hold back info. dont really see how they can benefit much from doing this [censored]

your example doesnt really make sense. your saying if a car was released you'd have to buy it to be able to see the features it offers, but if hearthfire was out you could easily find info/videos on the internet. i was quite glad when i got dawnguard and realised there were features bethesda didnt tell us about

What you speak of is true for all entertainment, not just games. If you know everything, it's no fun.

The wiki will soon be dripping with spoilers, as will these forums. So you'll get no unwelcome surprises.

Pisses me off when a movie is being released and I don't know the entire plot. I mean, who do they think they are? I am paying to see it and I want to know everything that is going to happen before I go to see it

I suppose you think they should release the script for a movie weeks or months before it premieres in theaters too.

When a movie is announced and they show some trailers, are you pissed off that they didn't describe all that happens from the beginning to the end?
