I'm waiting for this game since short after it's announcement 2006. I've put so much hope into Skyrim, more then I've put into Oblivion, which was an unplayable crash fest for the first copple of month, and even after I got it running, not half as decent as Morrowind was. But to make a long sentence short, Skyrim IS, undoubtly, the most intense an awesome experience I've came across since the days of Rome - TW, Morrowind and the original Call of Duty.
I got up todays morning at around 4:30 a.M. cause I couldn't sleep, continously dreaming about Skyrim. After my way to the toilet I thought to take a look at my computer, which preloaded Skyrim the night before, just to figure out that the game finished downloading and was ready to play. I so considered to play at this time and did so until 6:30 a.M because I had to go to my job. What I experienced in this short (which felt like 10 minutes cause I ttally forgot about time and space) two hours of gameplay is beyond any comprehension, beyond any description a veteran player, playing more then 4.000 games in his life, could give. There's only one thing you can say about Skyrim...you...yes I'm talking to everyone out there...You'll need to play...no wait...you'll need to experience this, it's uber awesome and pushed so much adrenaline thorugh my blood and gave me so much gooseskin moments in just two hours, I felt I was dying and already landed in heaven...or was it Skyrim?
However. I think Bethesda did a brilliant job this time...yeah, it's true, also thought they let us down in Oblivion (was never playable without tons of mods for me, and today still isn't playable due to crashes and bugs), but this time they not only created something special, but also something that's stable and considerably bug-free (which is amazing spoken in TES sense). The intro sequence pretty much tops anything I've ever had in any other game, except Dragon Age I and COD I maybe and the gameplay is trusted and common (as in Oblivion), but at the same time experimental and diverse (as in Morrowind). The world is very familiar (like in Oblivion), yet very Alien (as in Morrowind) and I'm sure I'm going to top my 3.000 hour Morrowind character with this game.
The best thing about Skyrim, just as New Vegas, Bethesda introduced most of the mods from Oblivion as game features in Skyrim, so there are less mods need to be used. Well, ok, it's obvious this game has been made for consoles, cause the inventory is very messy on the pc, but that's nothing a Joypad or a good UI mod couldn't handle (hoping the best for a return of DARN in Skyrim mod community). I also feel the need to grab me one of thoose survival mods, that introduces the need to eat, sleep and drink cause I'm so much used to it in FO and TES games. Ontop of that I think Skyrim has quadrupled the possibilitys in modding and soon there's going to be a flood of awesome mods on the NEXUS.
I also feel with thoose people that miss attributes and skills, but theres so much new, innovative and awesome stuff presented to us in Skyrim, that I fail to see what's so bad about striped down attris and skills. The new two handed fighting system is just brilliant, and whoever had the initial idea on Bethesda implementing this, deserves a Universe full of cookies, most epic idea ever, being able to use two hands at the same time...just brilliant.
And yeah, it's true what they say....never was a TES game more RPG like then this one, despite the fact that there are a lot ARPG elements anchored in the game. I often felt like I was playing Gothic...just in much more diverse and bigger world, with much more options and possibilitys to build and play my Nirn Avatar. And yeah...the dragons...almost forgot about them...did anyone remember the uber awesome dragons of the movie Reign of Fire? Anyone over at Bethesda got inspired by thoose, right? Man, thoose Skyrim Dragons look awesome.
I now have to return my first Vanilla playthrough for the next copple of weeks and then return to grab me some of the best mods and maybe this time even try myself to mod something. I wish you all the best of fun with this game and I'm sure, Notch is now sitting in front of his computer and jerking off, about how awesome Skyrim is and Minecraft isn't^^ Scrolls my ass...
