Those who currently play Guild Wars

Post » Sat May 12, 2012 2:46 pm

[Backstory: I stopped playing around late November of 2010, my guild was [KISS] ]

TL;DR-Is Guild Wars as active as it was a year or two ago? (As in seeing just as much people online, in arenas, etc.)

I used to play Guild Wars (And a few other MMO's), then I just got sick of the different attitudes communities had so I mainly play games that have very little Co-Op/MMO to none at all. Out of the ones I played, Guild Wars was my favorite. Sure there were still some of the usual...well, you know...but it was not as much as the others. I was in a great guild and had a good time but then I phased out of it and phased out of interest in anything that had to do with Guild Wars 2 news.

But from a few friends online that still play Guild Wars, they saw alot of people are leaving and the game is slowly diminishing (As in it is not as many members as you see). Is this true?

What also got my interest sparked in this claim was the fact that on my former guilds website, they are down to like 4-5 officers and 3 general managers when it used to have literally 30 of them and when I posted on there, a member that seems to try to be active mentions that people leave for the same reasons I am mentioning:Repetative, slow Guild Wars 2 news.

Thoughts? Sorry if I was nt clear, let me know if not!

I was an officer in KISS, but I got demoted for threatening to blow up another officer, with an RPG... in GTA. That's when I found out the GM was a uptight [censored]. So I left. I quit around the same time as you.

I played from 2006 to 2010. When I quit I gave away around 400k gold to my officers in a guild I ran. I checked the game about a 6 months ago and the population was about halved, but I didn't bother to even play.

Oh, and the guild I ran was an anti-KISS guild that consisted of those who had gotten fed up with the guild master and officers. Kinda like a rebel alliance.

Most likely, people would come back for the Canthan New Year for the Holiday event. That being said, many of the people ya see running around are usually the ones that is filling the 30/50 in the Hall of Monument or getting max God Walking Amongst Mere Mortal title.

Also KISS? Everyone I met that isn't [KISS] members doesn't really want to team up ya guys and the former members I met up complain about that Alliance.

That said; started out at 2005 to now and got both HoM and GWAMM title and continuing with another toon to max that toon's title to get GWAMM.

Who were you? (PM me your name you were a officer as if you are not comfortable showing it on here)

But ya, I was a GM as well. It was fine and all as I had officers that kicked butt and recruited 5 members a day. Alliance managers were alright, except for Rich....he was a factor of me leaving.

I honestly don't even remember, I think the character that was the main link to the guild was something Saren.

I remember there was another member that was leaving and giving away his items. He held a raffle and I won the two highest value items he had. Which was a Bone Dragon minipet (green), which back then, went for around 250k. And a Destroyer minipet, which went for around 150k.

AB is dead. I mean 0 people in the zones, and apparently people play Jade Quarry now, that used to be dead when I last played.

I'm playing now mostly to work on HoM. Had a lot of fun with the game, and still do when old guildies are online, but they kind of killed the game when they released EOTN. They announced GW2 and no more GW campaigns because of it, then went dark for years.

Now its basically 7-heros rolling over everything, while I chat with the few guildies that still play.

Oh ya, the 7 hero update. I laughed at that since it pretty much introduced what I called a "Single player MMO" mentality to the game. It was fun to have 7 heroes though, but made things boring since it was a little (much) over powered.

So AB is dead? Thats what KISS and Chi did so we could keep up on faction. Thats sad. Good to see JQ still active, that was a fun one!

Ya. They were fun but once I got up the ranks, especially to GM, they were on a power trip. Remember Rich? (Tj Black)? He made me feel like crap if I did one small thing wrong. Him and the other admins played favorites, too.

I used to farm UW with the perma-sin build (forget what it consisted of, it was an elite skill that made all physical damage null, and you could keep it up indefinitely with certain skills.)
I could get about 50k of ectos every day.

War on Kryta was alright, but when the EotN stuff came (The wedding one) I realized it was a lore thing so I ditched it. Guild Wars lore would make someone like MK laugh and Lady Nerevar cry (Unless they changed it since I left...).

I loved the Prophecies days, when it wasn't called Prophecies, just Guild Wars. No Sins, No Rits, No Dervs, No Paras. Drok's runs, 55 monks, Rotscale. Days when I'm pretty sure Anet had a mending warrior as one of the templates for PVP characters. Crystal Desert was a scary place, and you actually had to group with other players to complete the missions!

Did anyone play any of the beta weekends? I played one where you started at the Gates of Kryta, I think Rotscale was in it at the time, and by far the hardest thing to accomplish during the weekend.

The Rich guy I was talking about? Every night, him and the usual "favorites" always farmed UW, so i asked and he said yes, once I make a toon and get the skills, practice and what not. So I did that, wasted precious time and once I was ready, he trolled me and said no.

Basically, what I am saying is that I barely got to do UW becuase of too many veterans and KISS was the only way I could learn, and they blew it.

Well, enough with the bashing and venting, but is UW still active?

Well, AB dead for to many reasons: Jade Quarry bug was fix, it was Ancestral Lands for 2-3 freaken years (being a gloomly place make such an area unattractive), the reward/time ratio is horrible in comparison to other pvp like AB (losing in Jade Quarry/Fort Aspenwood yield more rewards then winning in Alliance Battle).

As for the 7-hero update, I see it as a blessing. It was that update that I can go to the Elite Area (namely Fissure of Woe and Domain of Anguish) without the moronic Speed Clear Team that demand too much perfection from one player and kicking them if the player isn't "perfect". Beside, it was a single player game before the update anyways.

I don't like Gwen or that spoony ranger she marrying; to be honest.

Wind of Change was decent, though a bit vanquish-like in those quest.

You can bring your 7 heroes to UW now, so I will agree with Qawsed Asap, it allows you to visit those elite areas if you never did before.

I actually tried to come back like a couple months ago if I recall correctly. But, after I found out that they completely nerfed the Dervish (my main character), I couldn't get back to it.

My Scythe Ranger was useless after that nerf. I loved that build :(

I never did group farming. And I never did the quests in UW either. It took me about 2 weeks to get my perma sin all set up, then after 3 weeks of having fun with the build, they nerfed it.

I remember one of the guilds I was in (I was a major guild hopper, been in atleast 30 guilds, 5 or so of which I was an officer. 2 of which were my own, that I left and they grew to be big.) would hold dungeon runs for anyone who wanted to join in every night at 7 est. They were really nice and explained to me what class would fit into their party, what skills to use and how to use them. That was one of my favorite guilds, but I forgot what it was called.

Is whats remaining of GW still consist of guild recruiters spamming local chat, and annoying people having conversation via trade chat while your trying to sell stuff?

I just want GW2 to come out. I played GW since its release, put more hours into it than any other game and had some really great experiences on there. The community has become smaller every time I've checked, the last time being about a year ago.

I spent 100k on my first FDS. 2 months later, you could get them for 500 gold and now Icy Dragon Swords were the [censored]. Same thing happened to Elemental Swords and the Fellblade. Both went for around 200k and now they are worthless. I blame EOTN.

Something like that; forgot the detail but when that bug was fix, EVERYONE flock there, both players and bots.

About the Dervish update, well its been revamp and in such a way that it made them playable, for me at least. Flash Enchantment, main attribute change, literally most of the skills are useful, even the avatar skill, and some skill become adrenaline. Before that, dervish was useless as the ranger, assassin, and warrior does a much better job then what the Dervish did before. They, however, became overpowered in PVP however and a bunch of people complain about that.

Also, ya guys know they would revamp the Elementalist this month or next like the Dervish, right?

I just want GW2 to come out.....
We all do.
