Those With No Lag

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 9:13 am

Okay - I am 13 hours in. Turned off auto-save. Save file is around 6mb. I'm on a 160 Slim. No lag - at least nothing like what some folks are talking about.

Who else is NOT having lag issues?

I dont know if its just me, but I think the game is stable enough. I only had 3 ctd's and only experienced a few bugs.

Its not as glitches has I thought it would be when I read the forum threads.

Maybe its because people run it on low-end computers?

Yes, but maybe there is something incommon with with those who are not experiencing lag that can shed light on why some are.

The lag is a result of shoddy coding and complete lack of testing on Bethesda's side, I can assure you it's not because how your PS3 is hooked to your TV or what settings it uses.

I am 18:30 hours in, 320 GB slim, no auto save, (thought it was stupid so I removed it right away) 5 saves including auto? (I think) save is 5867kb or so.

This. Albeit, it's a little more complicated, but definitely this.

The important question is is it fixable?

Well...let me put it this way:

It's been around since the engine was used on Fallout 3, and since has been used on larger games that demand more from the engine (New Vegas and Skyrim). So you tell me, do you think they can fix it if they couldn't before?

No lag here, just other major glitches (Whiterun's guard, invisible barriers that make me stuck in place).

Play time isn't what's important. It's file size. Have you reached 6.3 MB yet?

Was experiencing terrible lag last night in Whiterun but after changing a whole heap of ps3 xmb settings I have reduced the lagg to nothing. But probably the best fix is simply turning off your console for a bit. After many hours of continuous gameplay thats when it gets slightly choppy. Game save file is at 6.7mb

What XMB settings did you change?

Save file is at 11mb, gets choppy when i play for over an hour or so, after 2 hours it becomes unbearable.

If that were true I would have lag, which I don't. It must be a mix of many issues.

It clearly is not as black and white as you make it sound, otherwise EVERYONE would be experiencing these issues.

First it was 5000kb, then 6000kb, and now 6300kb? Why must those that are experiencing lag feel the need to personally guarantee we will eventually get lagged out? It was the same for me with FO3... all these threads about the game being absolutely unplayable on the PS3, and I completed the game with a total of 3 freezes that required a reset, and that was it.

Considering that not all players are experiencing lag or very minimal lag then it can't be all a result of just coding. Unless you're a video game programming guru than I doubt you can assure us anything. One thing I can assure you, Bethesda tested this game a great deal.

And Tluav Boy doesn't even have the game, he said so in one of his posts. So he's in the Skyrim issues section trolling about file sizes and all of that, when he himself has never played the game.

Yeah every one i know has lag issues at high level and glitches that ruin quest lines, it's mainly glitches that stop you from being able to attack and the down scaling of the graphics that bother me but like seriously i'm sure this is in violation of the fair trades act or something

I have the lag issue as well, but it doesn't seem to be as severe as some have been reporting. For me it's mostly in the cities, and horse back riding. When I am in the wild off the horse it just stutters but not as bad as in cities. I haven't had any slowdowns during combat. I did the Bard College quest last night where, you have to get the book from a dungeon. No spoilers but at the end of the quest you have to fight many enemies, and combat never slows down for me. I've fought dragons out in the wild, and had no slowdowns. My file size is roughly 6838KB so what's that like 6.8MB?

I've had no glitches and no quest breakers yet either.

Some of the lag issues may be patch related. Some of us never installed the launch patch. It would behoove everyone to mention whether this is the case or not. Otherwise, you all sound like superstitious pigeons with the file size stuff. I doubt that is the case at all.

No patch, very little overall lag. Probably average 25-30ish FPS (which might seem unplayable to some) and that's ok for me. I got used to the crappy shadows, and now I don't see the blockiness or the updating as much, similarly I probably habituated to the frame rate too. To each his own.
