I thought dual casting spells was supposed to make the spell

In the skill description for all schools of magic, there is a perk where your spells in that school of magic will be stronger when dual cast. I finally decided to take up this perk for alteration school of magic and then tried dual casting my adept lvl shield spell. I cast with just one had first and checked the armor stats. Then I dual cast the same spell and again checked the armor stats. They were both identical, providing me with the same armor bonus regardless if I dual cast the spell or not. I even tried it naked, same results. No difference in the power of the armor bonus. Thankfully I saved just before taking up this perk and just went back to saved point after. Phew, 1 precious perk point saved.

Can anyone confirm this is the same for them. If so, I am wondering if my precious perks were wasted in my other schools of magic, ie destruction and conjuration and if this perk actually works as described?

Thanks.

Cheers,

Well,
I don't know about alteration - but Destruction is noticibly stronger when cast in dual mode.

just to make sure: when you cast your spell - you cast 1 spell with both hands, right ?
not 2 spells in 2 hands (that would simply mean you're reciving the same notmal effect twice - which doesn' stuck).

Also, any chance that the perk bonus is for spell duration, and not for spell strength ?

I woulden't bother, spells have clearly been overlooked in skyrim, poor animations and no scaling :(

I'm waiting for a mod.

Dual casting doesn't seem to do anything to flame cloak either. It's a bit wonky.

Did you check duration?

from what ive seen playing mage only destruction and restoration have noticable changes which are 10% damage healing incress and 40% more mana consumtion

alteration conjuration and illusion dont have anything truly notices able from duel cast they only thing ive seen is that duration is slighty longer

I dunno about it being stronger. I use dual cast for the stagger effect. Just fought an Elder dragon and felt like a sissy kiting the damn thing for about 3 mins before finally finishing it off lol Where is our mana/shield bubble spell? /evil grin

Yes it's one spell cast using both hands. The description on the dual cast Alteration perk says it will cast a more powerful version of the spell. I still get same armor value regardless if i single cast or dual cast it. Kind of defeats the purpose of the perk, not to mention wasting the extra mana dual casting.

The description for the Alteration dual casting perk clearly states that you are supposed to get a more powerful version of the spell when it is dual cast. Nothing to do with prolonged duration. The conjuration dual cast perk is for longer duration.
