Time to take a Skyrim break when...

Post » Thu Aug 16, 2012 3:20 am

I was sitting in my car in the parking lot yesterday when a bird flew overhead and cast that oh-so-identifiable "Bird Shadow".

My literal first thought "OH - Hawk or Dragon?!" as I crane my neck to look out the car window.

So sad...

Fess up - what's your "I believe it's time to step away from the game for a day or two" story???

When my back hurts. When I'm too freaking tired for the game's controls. When my hands hurt. When I'm busy with other hobbies. When my nephew is playing with me.

I actually find myself playing less because of how bad of insomnia I have. I sleep about three nights a week at worst and four at best. I love Skyrim, but the controls get too demanding for my overly tired body sometimes.

When I realize that I am still trying to use Skyrim's hotkeys to make things happen on my computer and I'm not actually playing the game. I once spent about 30 seconds wondering why Windows wasn't shutting down only to realize that repeatedly hitting the Esc key wasn't gonna make that happen for me.

Stepping outside, seeing the rain and wishing I could shout Clear Skies and make the bad weather go away.

When I begin to dream that I am my character within that world. Yeah, it's definitely time for a break, just until Dawnguard comes to PS3 though.

Stepping outside, seeing the rain and wishing I could shout Clear Skies and make the bad weather go away.

...or, when - after an unusual cold and rainy summer, the evenings finally are getting nice and warm, and you should sit on the porch, drinking a glass of whatever you prefer, but you wish it was cold and rainy, so you could stay inside and play Skyrim instead. (I realize some of you don't see the issue here, but where I live it's mandatory to Enjoy The Few Warm Summer Days We Actually Have and DAMN you if you don't! We are a bit obsessed with nice weather here...)

So, me preferring staying inside to play a game instead of being outside is a sign something's not right. :P

When you buy it.
To fix this problem, return it, or break the disk.

..you look at the sun rays at dusk and think now that's a good shader

Actually I had no idea what lavender looked like in RL before playing the game.

Lol, so true. There is a stretch of road on my drive to work... along the shoulder there is a long patch of blue wildflowers that came in over the spring/summer, maybe cornflowers but I'm not sure. It's not uncommon to see them growing in vacant lots that you pass too, anyway the point is that from the car they look SO much like something out of the game. Every time I drive by, a little box pops up in my brain that says "Harvest: Blue Mountain Flower." :P

My room is filled with lavender scented stuff, so I think my love of the scent of it is why I pick it in Oblivion and Skyrim so much. I use it to calm myself and help me sleep. Now mushrooms amazed me when I was playing Oblivion too much.

Hey, better safe than sorry! If, when, the Dragons come, people like you will survive and tell the tales.

When someone is talking to you and you almost end your sentence with. "An arrow in the knee".

When you want to collect every plant you come across in the woods.

You think:
-Red Gatorade is a Restore health potion. http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Restore_Health
-Green Gatorade is Restore Stamina potion.
-Blue Gatorade is a Restore Magicka potion.

When boredom sets in.

If Skyrim starts invading the rest of my life, then that's a sign that I should keep playing.

Well, with any first-person shooter, it happens when I start dreaming in first-person shooter mode.

When you notice you put in a ungodly amount of time in it during a short period of time. I am taking a break for that very reason.

When you start talking to cats and asking them to show you what they have for sale. But in all seriousness, I can't stop talking like a Khajiit sometimes. Legion knows much!
