Tips for newbie

Hey,

Is everyone enjoying the game as much as I am? I have played my share of RPG’s but I can safely say I have never been enthralled in a game as I have with this one, aside from Chrono Trigger. I find myself spending multiple hours doing the most trivial activities in Skyrim simply because this game has a way of pulling you into its world. I just had a couple questions I was hoping you guys could help me out with. Here is a little background about my character. I ‘m a lvl10 Nord warrior wielding a one hand mace and a shield. Most of my skill points are allocated into one hand mastery and some in the heavy armor tree. Now onto my trivial questions:

-Can you respec your talents?

-Where can I learn more skills like the shout ability that makes all foes run away? (Usable only once a day)

-I find myself doing a lot of cooking but I have never noticed any level system or experienced gained when doing so. Do you need to level you skills by creating multiple low level items before you can create a higher level item or do you simply need the necessary materials?

-Where can I find an enchanting recipe and why are some warriors avoiding using enchantments on their weapons? (I just read something about that here)

-Can you increase the amount you can carry?

-Any advice for a new warrior that will give me an easier time defeating my foes?

That’s it for now!
Thanks for your time

You can't redo your perks. Once you choose one, that's it. You can delaying choosing them, though, just as you can delay leveling. (Keep in mind that health, magicka, and stamina are replenished at level up, so this could be used strategically as a "heal all" sort of effect).

If you have a once a day effect, that's probably a unique racial talent/ability. The Fear spell/effect is similar (in the Illusion school of magic).

You don't get XP for all activities. You don't get XP for cooking, or smelting ore, or tanning hides, or mining ore. You don't get XP for chopping wood or using the sawmill, either, or for certain other activities. However, such things offer more immersion for you as you play the character within the world of Skyrim.

Enchanting doesn't have a recipe. You learn enchantments by disenchanting enchanted items (not scrolls, but apparel, weapons, and armor). Enchantments can make you much more powerful, so some people might avoid using them.

You can increase your carrying capacity with one of the special stones (The Steed) as well as through enchanted equipment and/or alchemy potions that increases it.

If you want to play a melee warrior, probably dual wielding one-handed weapons will give you the max dps. Remember that different weapons use different attack speeds, as well as different damage. Enchantments aand alchemy potions can boost damage effects, too. You'll want good stamina for power attacks and probably decent health.

1. You cannot re-spec perks.

2. That ability is a racial Power. You cannot get more. What you want are Thu'um's (Shouts.) Do the main quest for a bit and then you will get a letters telling you where to go to get new shouts. Several dungeons have them so keep your eye out.

3. Cooking is not an actual skill thus you cannot improve it. You only need the material to cook what you want. It will show what you can cook depending on what you have in your inventory.

4. You only learn different enchantments by Disenchanting weapons and gear that you find. You can do this by going to the enchanting table. It's the uppermost option. Daggers and Staff's cannot be enchanted or Disenchanted. Warriors do not avoid enchanting. Enchanting as a warrior will significantly improve the damage of your melee weapons. Wherever you read that, ignore it.

5. You can increase the amount you carry by upping your Stamina when you level up. It will increase it by 10 per point in Stamina or you can Enchant boots and Gloves for the effect.

6. I don't play a warrior but I would suggest that you get the Whirlwind Shout so that you can rush enemies which have ranged attacks. Especially mages that drain your stamina and slow you down using Frost spells. If you wish to be beastly, raise Blacksmith and Enchanting skills up.

If you wish for further information, feel free to ask.

Seeing you guys were so helpful, something else was bothering me to some extent. When I was given the title of Thane of Whiterun I was given a loyal servant that would follow me everywhere and help me in combat, a lot like the mercenaries in Diablo 2. Unfortunately she died in a battle on the way to Riftin.

Can I resurrect her? Or are there more like her?

Do mercenaries gain experience and can you change their equipment?

Can you assign them orders that they follow in combat?

Are they necessary for some parts of the game? For example, can I tell her to wait right here while standing on a weight sensitive lever that opens a gate?

Do not dual wield 1h weapons It is horrible.

There are many companions in skyrim. Tons of them. You just have to find them. But currently there are a few companions that cannot be killed so they are the best ones at the moment.

-Can you respec your talents?
Nope.
-Where can I learn more skills like the shout ability that makes all foes run away? (Usable only once a day)
Various stones throughout the game will give a daily power. You can only have one of these at a time, though.
-I find myself doing a lot of cooking but I have never noticed any level system or experienced gained when doing so. Do you need to level you skills by creating multiple low level items before you can create a higher level item or do you simply need the necessary materials?
You only need the materials. Cooking does not have an associated skill.
-Where can I find an enchanting recipe and why are some warriors avoiding using enchantments on their weapons? (I just read something about that here)
Enchanted weapons can't be upgraded via Smithing until you unlock a level 60 Smithing perk, which would lead to some players avoiding enchantments. Also, pure warriors would have a difficult time getting the Soul Gems needed to recharge enchanted weapons.
-Can you increase the amount you can carry?
Yes. Increasing your Stamina adds to your carry weight, and the Steed Stone also increases maximum carry weight.
-Any advice for a new warrior that will give me an easier time defeating my foes?
Normal attack, power attack. Rinse and repeat for a stunlock against most foes. And never, never forget to use Dragon Shouts. They help a lot for pure warriors.

Do not dual wield 1h weapons It is horrible.
Also, ignore this guy. He probably hasn't gotten far into the game yet.

You can tell them to do basic actions. Nothing super complicated. Yes you can use them to hold a switch open. An you may also give them gear/items and make them stronger.

Wayman : I am currently lvl 34 on master and if you think dual wield is good for anything other then novice modes your a newb.
An soul gems are just as easy for a warrior to get as a caster you just favorite a soul enchanted weapon when you want to trap it you swap.

I play a warrior class and I wreck ***ches in melee. 2h is the way to go as power attacks are huge. When choosing which stats to improve, just switch from stam to health, rotating every time.

And yes, smith and enchanting are the way to go. I carry two weapons, one with the enchant that fills soulstones and one with extra damage enchant. When smithing is 100, you can make dragon bone heavy armor that is Legen...wait for it...dary! Legendary!

Exactly if your serious about playing the real mode Aka Master difficulty and really enjoying the game. You must go 2h or sword and board or your toon will be way to easy to kill.

Is it safe to assume that there is an equipment storage option when I purchase my house in Whiterun? Or is there a storage chest option before that at any point?

You can store items on your companions and in a chest in your house if you would like. Just keep in mind some companions can die. So choose wisely if you pick them as storage mules.
