Tips to get Bolts for Vampires

Post » Mon Nov 19, 2012 4:27 pm

I have come up with two (2) ideas to getboltsif you are a member of the Volkihar Clan. If you love crossbows, but you are a vampire, read these two tips, and you will be happy if your other skills are high enough.

1) If you haven't done the "Destroying the Dawnguard" quest yet, get it active. If your illusion skill is good enough, go into Fort Dawnguard, but don't kill the leaders as you are supposed to. Calm Sorine and Gunmar and talk to them, then you can buy all the bolts and even crossbows they have. Sadly, though, you cannot to Sorine's Ancient Technology Quests..... Oh, well, you still get bolts!!!

2) Remember the infinite arrows that we could get from the guard in Solitude? Same idea, you just need a little better pickpocket skill. Pickpocket the bow and the arrows off the guard (or anyone else shooting arrows) and give him a Crossbow and a Bolt. He will start shooting bolts, now. Awesome right? Now, if you combine this with dwarven bolts, which you can get off Dwarven Spheres, then you haven easy way to get them, too!

That is all that I've found, but has anyone else found anything? Thanks and your welcome!

They can both take a little time, but they are worth it to a Crossbow-Wielding Vampire.

I can't wait for the PC version to come out. I'm totally going to see if I can revive the Dawnguard and activate their quests as a vampire lord. :P

It would probably work, but make sure you add yourself to the Dawnguard faction when the time comes.

Lol. Probably. But maybe if you're a Volkihar Vampire, then they will like you, but then they will hate you because you are a vampire hunter even though you are a vampire, and the vampires will try to hunt the vampire hunter, but then realize that you are their side, then they will like you again, but then......

"Hello, friend! You should never have come here! Where are you? Hello, friend!"

That's how I imagine it going. :P

My Vampire Lord has enough Dawnguard armor and weapons to open a shop, why would vampires be struggling to get bolts? It is probably easier for a Vampire Lord to scavenge bolts of the horde of dead Dawnguard lying around than it is for a member of the Dawnguard to get bolts.

Mind you at the start of the quest while still with the Dawnguard I made sure to harvest all those practice shots the country bumpkin was firing off, as Braggen explored the place. An unlimited supply that seemed to be. Little did I know I would be inundated with crossbow bolts. Even innocent chests have been known to produce the things. And two of my high level characters are archers with their own bows, the crossbow was of no interest to them, the low level character is not much at archery and will probably use it. Of course he will be with the Dawnguard so will just grab a large amount of bolts at the start. He is a long way from wanting to investigate Dwemer ruins.

When you use the crossbow, bolts tend to disepear FAST, since it fires faster then the bow. And dawnguard npcs only have a small amount of bolts on them, when i played the dawnguard faction i hade ~600 bolts on me whenever i was going out on a mission.

Your character is not an archer? Even if the bolts all vanish, it should not take that many more shots than a normal bow. But Rork my low level character is no archer, so will make sure to collect lots of bolts before leaving the building the first time with the crossbow. The crossbow better be a lot better for low level characters than it was for high though.

Theres 4 different crossbows. The steel crossbow, the enhanced steel crossbow, the dwarven crossbow and the enhanced dwarven crossbow. The enchanced versions (atleast the steel one) has a % armor penetration, and they can be enchanted too.

You also get better bolts later (Explosive bolts that do fire, frost or lightning damage).

Combine it all like i have done and you have a good steel (I dont have the dwarven one yet) legendary crossbow that ignores some armor, is enchanted with fire damage and fiery soultrap, fires explosive fire bolts, and just for the overkill i introduced some posion. Trust me, damage wont be a problem even if your not a archer.

And can my Vampire Lord character get his hands on these enhanced crossbows? The Dawnguard rabble only have the default gear so far.

You can if you play Dawnguard and than turn into a vampire lord at end of said questline, if you play on the vampire questline you can't get them.

You can get about 8 bolts out of the Dawnguard that attack you. And they don't even appear anymore after you finish the quest line. Not good at all.

As I already posted, you can get 5-10 bolts off of every dwarven sphere you kill in the Dwemer ruins. You just have to wait for the respawns...

Yup. I used that to get the dwarven bolts in the first place, then used the infinite arrows I told you about to get over 500 of them. Only killed one sphere, now I have that many...
