Todd's Economy

Post » Fri May 11, 2012 6:41 am

So we were told that we would be able to influence the economy within Skyrim with our character. However, I have not yet found a way to do this, but from the Speech perk tree, it seems we give merchants gold, so they will take our junk and give us the gold back??? :homestar:

Were we lied to or something?

Beth never implied that the economy was going to be deep and intricate. it was "a light touch"

that said no I've not seen the advertised statement of ruining saw mills....why would I want to ruin the saw mill and make arrow prices harder for ME is beyond me but whatever.

Todd Howard... Exaggerates features in TES games sometimes. I take anything Bethesda says in interviews in stride.

Really? I can't think of a single thing that was promised for Skyrim that isn't there. The Radiant AI thing in Oblivion was a blatant lie, but everything regarding Skyrim seems to have been sincere.

I'm pretty sure they promised things like people needing to find food to survive and some NPCs turning to crime if they had no other options as features that would be in Oblivion. They were not.

You are totally misunderstanding the perk.

Yes, you have to give the merchants gold. ONCE. And from then on, they will always have 500 or 1000 more gold each time you visit them. So for instance, let's say a merchant normally has 1000 gold available a day. You take the perk and invest 500 gold in the merchant's business. From then on everyday he will have 1500 gold available. So it is a net gain for you in long run.

They released a video of a fully scripted event and claimed it as a random event created by the AI. That's a pretty blatant lie.
(The thing with the lady blasting her misbehaving dog with a fireball, among other events).

Todd loves to spew out alot of crap out of his mouth.

Yes he did promise, or it seemed like a promise that we could change the economy. It was one of the first things said in January or February. I was thinking this as well, and haven't seen it. I just thoguht I haven't played enough or did enough to change anything.

I just think it's Oblivion all over again with Todd. He said alot of things and they have been "cut out" of the game for one reason or another.

I believe there was some mention that the PC version would look better than the Xbox version. Also something about faces melting, lol. My face is still pretty solid and dry. The game looks good from far away. Or if I squint. And I have terrible eyes and a brand new PC with a $500 graphics card. Tbh, I feel like I'm playing a $2,500 xbox. And that thought does make me pretty mad.

I don't feel cheated, no, that is too harsh of a word. But I do feel like like they made some empty promises, and they did kinda screw over the PC player base by shipping such low res textures, shoddy shadow & lighting, and only optomizing it for consoles. This svcks pretty bad, especially when they promised us that people with high end systems would be able to crank up the details. I believed them, and spend alot of money based on those promises that I otherwise would not have. I really really hope they fix these broken promises in the next patch.

People are confusing scripted events and AI as being mutually exclusive. They are not. They are intertwined a great amount.

You have to script the AI to do specific reactions in specific events. In effect, they tell the NPC "This is what could happen, and if anything does happen, here is how you will respond."

I would bet that each and every dragon in Skyrim is scripted to an extent. I would even bet some non quest related ones are scripted to appear in locations. However, what they do once they appear, is based off their list of possible reactions, which were scripted. They react based off input.

I don't think he meant like greatly impact it, but if you sell a shop owner a ton of daggers the worth goes down.
