Too easy to make caps?

Post » Fri Dec 11, 2015 8:21 am

I feel like the loot in this game is wayyy too abundant, level 37 sat at 14000 caps without trying to make money. Playing on survival and since (higher difficulty = more legendary enemies = better loot dropped I'm always getting items worth 200+ in value). Shouldn't survival tone down the amount of good loot found. Not the logic of (Survival is hard difficulty = throw a crap load of good items at player for killing high level enemies?)

And no I can't mod this since it's on console.

its not that hard to make money. I liked to go to the Glowing Sea, kill Death Claws and Radscorpions. Get nice XP and cook up Death Claw steaks to sell. Combine that with a few mod weapons to sell, easily get a few thousand caps.

Exactly. I'm at level 45 and stored up 18k+ caps looting the crap out of legendary enemies, selling good gear and completing lots of side quests

My main rant is the logic behind survival. Survival is meant to be harder but the chain of (More legendary enemies = more better loot = more money) Doesn't that go against the whole survival thing? idk

nope, the whole point of a higher diffulculty settings are for better rewards, that is why they exist in gaming. in the arcade games for example, it was harder = more points =better chance to get on the leader board. RPGs do the same, but with loot.

Then it's not really 'Survival' difficulty if it's making it easier than lower difficulty level's because of the logic behind the enemy drops.

Step 1 - get scrap

Step 2 - build lots of water purifiers

Step 3 - sell the water

Step 4 - retire and drink Deezer's lemonade all day long

It is not called "survival" becase it turns the game into a survival game, it is called that in the same way Diablo calls its hardest mode nightmare mode.

you do not seem to understand the main point behind the difficulty setting.

Even in the Elder scrolls games, more hits to take down opponent = More skill increases = more level ups = getting higher level faster

At level 27, I have about 3500 caps. I rarely sell stuff. Instead, I barter. I trade drugs and pre-war money for goods.

I haven't seen any need for spending caps yet, though early on, I did need ammo for my shotgun.

I kill things and sell ammo for caps. Pretty good money. Even with 1 Charisma and no bartering perks, all ammo sells to vendors for at least 1 cap each. Minigun wielding enemies like super mutants, or raider leaders, are particularly profitable. .38 rounds also get you a lot since it's so common.

Level 20 and I've got over 7000 caps.

I'm a vigilant salesman and equip the quadruple Charisma outfit when bartering, giving me an effective total of 6 charisma on top of my Jerky Vendor ranks. For seriously big exchange sprees, I pop a Graqe Mentat for the maximum Charisma and bartering bonus.

Some legendary items cost over 1500 caps, easily, so it's worth it to save up.

I'm level 37 and I'm sitting on 40,000 caps. I literally pick up anything not bolted down (some areas take two or even three trips to clear). There's no resources I really need (except screws). I have 5 stores in Sanctuary and routinely bankrupt them, plus the traveling merchant who also appear.

The only thing I really buy is ammo. I use to buy stimpacks too, but I use mainly food to heal anyway (so now I'm also saving money there)

It's usually easy to make caps in Fallout. For example, since I don't use mines, grenades, and drugs... I pick them up and sell them all the time. (Due to their low weight and how common they are, the caps add up quickly).

If you think money is too easy then why are you looting and selling everything for more money?

I only loot ammo for the handgun and long gun I carry, and take all the prewar money I can find.

That's it.

Too much cash is never an issue for me.

Welcome to all gamesas games. It's disturbingly easy to become stinking rich, though not quite as bad as it got in Fallout 3. Mods will be our savior here.

It has always been easy to make caps in every Fallout game since the first one. I had so many caps in Fallout 2 I could have bought Redding and get all of the gold for myself. In fact, I'll go so far as to saying it can be easy in most RPGs to earn currency so long as the loot is there and you're a loot hoarder. The latter is true in my case. I sell too much and spend very little in RPGs.

In Fallout 4 in particular, the most I've bought is ammo (mainly just energy weapon ammo, so just the rare stuff. Pretty good at managing ammo as well), armor, and of course junk. Junk being my most bought stuff, in which its all fairly cheap in the first place.

Here I thought I was the only one thinking the same thing...

I just barter for stuff I need...store or scrap the rest, and sit on caps earned...

You're talking about selling good items right?...yet you say you have 14000 caps without trying to make money, seems odd to me, however here's a couple of options, no mod needed..
1. Don't sell items
2. Don't grab items to sell in the fist place
It's just as easy to have less, as it is to have more

And you need a special hard core to do this....why?

I'm a RP geek and that hardcoe more was.one of the silliest things I've ever seen in a game. There was no logic to it and very little was required to be hardcoe.

Create your own rules for each individual character to live by and you'll have a much better gaming experience.

You want to have a lot less caps? Buy ammo especially plasma cartridges that'll get rid of your caps.

some part of the hardcoe mode is make it more realistic and remove some sily part of the game such as carrying 100 missles, 30 mini nukes, and 5000 rounds of 5mm bullets around all the time. you can RP that part by manually manage it but then it won't be as realistic as it built in within the system.

btw it is an totally optional mode within NV and it is purely optional. so if you don't like it then don't need to turn it on, but no need to reject the idea for some RP players like me. i am always welcome addtional adjustable optional options for personal RP experience.
