Too powerful then too weak at odd times....

Hey,

There are no spoilers here.

I am level 30 and I probably haven't done 40% of the game from considering how large the map is to where I've been and the long list of unfinished quests.

What I find strange with this level scaling is that one moment I am killing high-level creatures in one quests and the next I am killing rats for a little sidequest when a mage comes a long (who would have been easily killed in 3 hits if I was a level 4) kills me in consecutive, pinpoint accurate fireballs.

I am finding this a lot that I am some huge hero then doing mediocre tasks and then back to something HUGE again. I know this is a sandbox game but I like forward progression, not back and forth, its not natural in life and feels weird in a game.

Does you understand what I mean? Perhaps I should have stayed around the beginning area of the map for longer before venturing out because returning to earlier areas seems silly.

Most games aim for highs and lows nowadays. A strict path only in one direction or a constant plateau isn't considered the ideal experience.

Additionally, a big cry for the audience was wanting those "I'm awesome" moments where you're one-shotting everyone you come across. But you'd have to put a gun to a designer's head to make him want to never challenge the player.

Peaks and valleys is really perfect. I hated oblivion for being too linear.

I agree with your observation. It is a strange wave of ups and downs in power level for me as well. I am only lvl 18, but there has been some noticeable highs and lows. I have recently upped the difficulty from Adept to Expert, which basically means I have had to be more tactical in approaching battles.

Something similar happened to me. I'm level 12 and I and 3 others approached a mage and she froze all of us and started shooting ice shards at us. I took several hits before dying. I reloaded and went back to the same spot. Charged the same mage and this time she hits me with one shard of ice and I go flying backwards dead by one icicle. It svcks. I understand it if I get hit by a and ice troll or giant, but one icicle?

Ok thats good that I am not alone here.

Due to the level scaling Its like I am never getting any stronger because the world is as well. I am this huge dragon slayer that kills exotic and powerful enemies but yet no matter how I improve the enemies are always a little less powerful or more powerful then I am. So 1 minute your in a world were most creatures/people are not powerful and then 20 levels later ALMOST everything is powerful! Even on Adept difficulty a Bandit Marauder takes like 10-15 hits of my sword which has a high-level fire enchantment but I could have killed him 20 levels before when he was just called 'Bandit' in 4 hits of a iron sword with no enchantment.

I can understand the need to maintain challenge but could it all feels weird. When I get a new sword/armour I feel good I got them but remember that all enemies have got stronger so it all balances out again lol

Ofc you are not alone. I'm tired of presenting myriads of arguments about it and i'll just say something so that i can feel better.

Ban/eliminate/kill/burn/destroy the level scaling idea completely.
Put fixed levels at dungeons/mobs instead seperately like it's supposed to be in rpg games, like OOO did with Oblivion. I freakin want progression back! Hope a modder will save the day.
And "challenge" is not an argument. Game can be even more challenging like that and not boring after 50.
