You can't enable it and it allows game engines to use tessellation and improves graphical performance.

Bethesda has said that the game uses DirectX 9, but uses the optimizations from DirectX 11. I don't really know exactly what this means or how it's done.

It means they developed an engine using out-of-date technology for out-of-date consoles.

It means they should pull their finger out and release a DX11 patch. Even for console ports, developers should be aiming for DX11 on PC release.

I know what using DirectX 9 means. I do not know what using DirectX 11 optimizations means.

Taking few functions and code snippets out of DX11 and using them with DX9. Because technically DX11 is DX9, it just have significantly improved on DX9 functions and made new ones to meet with todays standards. But this is what render both DX9 and DX11 incompatible with each other, I believe.

It means Bethesda could have used DX11 for this game but since consoles are priority they had to use DX9 instead. So DX11 optimization really means we could have but we didn't.

I agree. That's what happened with Crysis 2. Awhile after the initial release, they released a patch that gave the PC version DX11 support, and they also released high-res textures for PC. Beth would do well to follow suit.

No, instead I will return my dx11 video card were you pay these days >200 € for and buy me an older dx9 card which would cost me much less.

I love how people have no idea what DX11 actually is. DX11 or DX10 or DX9 all render the same images, in fact besides tessellations I doubt one could actually determine the difference between the 3. DX11 might increase you output 1-5% however you would not be able to see it and tessellations would require an entire rewrite of all objects and textures in the world. I for one do not care if its DX8 if it runs and doesn't look like Quake Original.

Hmm so you are telling me paying 100 à 200 bucks more for a dx11 card is a total rip off from graphic card industries?

No, I didn't pay for a DX11 card, I paid for a card with more power than my last card. Just like I bet you didn't pay for a processor with the latest encryption and decryption algorithms but rather a processor that is better than your last processor. How about your motherboard chipset? did you pay for a motherboard that has the latest SATA III movement algorithms or did you pay for a motherboard to meet your needs?

Paid for motherboard with my needs as long as the motherboard got all inputs it needs I'm fine with it. Only thing I don't understand I rly think they do ask much more for dx11 cards...

ps. I never asked if you bought a dx11 card or why you bought one.

You don't need DX11 for tesselation, and DX11 does not automatically mean stuff is somehow better.

Not sure about that, the price scales pretty much with the "Is it New?" scale and the "How Powerful?" scale. I normally buy a card that has a good shader core + core clock to price ratio. I can also always add a new card is crossfire or sli depending on the card I get that cycle.

Mostly everything you can do with DX11, you can also do with DX9.
That includes http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb206188%28VS.85%29.aspx.
DX11 is just more convinient to use for programmers.
But there are no effects in DX11, that can't be done with DX9.

Attacked? Who attacked? I didn't see any attack anywhere in this thread.
I was simply expressing how I was annoyed by the fact so many people hail Tesselation as a DX11 feature, which it defintately is not exclusive to. Even the Xbox 360 can do tesselation.

hmm I never check if it got 2 pci-e x16 ports, some m8's I know have experienced lots of trouble with crossfire or sli.

My appologies if I'm mistaken, but it almost looked like that was directed to me.

Well I apoligize aswell if it came out wrong, but I didn't have much time to properly word the sentence because the Skyrim forum is so overly crowded, that it seems all useful posts will instantaneously get drowned in useless comments of eg. people expressing their feelings, or other off-topic stuff like asking new questions or asking a question that has been answered in the original post, so I felt I had to hurry up to 'spread the word'.

Yeah I know what you are talking about, noticed that those things happens regular on forums.

Guess I should take all comments a bit less individual and more like they are talking to evryone in common
