Does anyone know the race of Miraak? Or his primary mage schools? Thanks!

Most likely Nord, as he used to hang with the Priests. Hard to say what his magic stats are, don't know for sure without the CK.

I'm sure that when this is released on PC next year, we'll be able to dig into his stats via the CK. I'm sure as soon as it releases, someone will do just that and post it in the forums. Either that, or it's possible that if a new strat guide releases before the PC version comes out, they might mention it in there. The author of the TES and Fallout guides tends to be thorough to the extreme, which is awesome.

not necessarily, we're dragonborn and can be any race...miraak was the first priest so he could be any race really and beth purposefully leaves this a mystery so we can draw our own conclusions and so they can write anything into lore later ;)

Possibly a Nede... but basically the same thing.

When Miraak dies his skeleton still has flesh hands, & feet for some reason. And the fleshy hands & feet are very obviously human.
So, I'd reckon he's a Nord. Especially since he's a Dragon Priest, & the dragon cults were Nordic cults.

As for magic, I'd bet it's destruction. All he ever did was use shouts, & spray lightning everywhere.

If he's, as stated, the first Dragonborn, then he comes after Alessia (who was not born, but MADE, by Akatosh). My guess is he's Alessia's son, post Akatosh's blessing, probably Pelinal is his father.

Erm... he's a dragonpriest, he pre-dates Alessia (who was the first modern dragonborn, prior to that the Blades fought alongside many dragonborn warriors when the dragons ruled).

He's a Dragon Priest who is ALSO Dragonborn (none of the other nine majors in Skyrim showed any signs of being Dragonborn). The "first Dragonborn" was *supposed to be* St. Alessia. HOWEVER, she was not BORN Dragon, she was blessed by Akatosh and "became Dargonborn". Therefore, in keeping with lore, she was not technically Dragonborn, but Dragonmade, but as the blessing carried through her lineage seemingly, her next child would be Dragonborn, and technically the first Dragonborn. Not disputing that there were those who could shout before this time, we're even treated to it in Skyrim vanilla's MQ. But, they are not Dragonborn, nor is Ulfric. Being able to use the voice is not the same as being Dragonborn, and I've not seen a single reference to their being Dragonborn in Atmora. Further, the major nine priests have all been found, others, it seems logical, came after, in attempts to "reinvent" the "faith" or as stragglers in a dying "faith". Alessia was, what, 4k years before Skyrim, and, oh right, in Skyrim, were, yeah, those Dargon Priests are from (not Atmora, though I'm sure the sect predates the exodus). Alessia is at the very beginning of the first era, something like 1E100. So yeah, Miraak being her son completely fits the lore. He'd even predate Ysmir/Talos.

No he predates her by a few thousand years.

Alessia was never stated to be the first dragonborn.

WTF are you talking about?

The Dragon War predates Alessia. The Dragon Cult is one of the FIRST and earliest possible recordings of the Merethic era. Miraak is at least 1,000 years OLDER then Alessia. He was the first mortal blessed by Akatosh. Alessia was not the first. She was the first RECORDED that mortal kind knew about. The dragonblood was granted to numerous people way before her time.

Again, no, Alessia is very early first era. Miraak would then have to be Merethic, and would not have been referred to as "Dragonborn" at all. Please read: The Book of the Dragonborn.

FACT: Alessia was not the first dragonborn. Please read The Book of the Dragonborn where it states "Most scholars agree that the term was first used in connection with the Covenant" However as the reality plays out most of the scholars were wrong the term predates Alessia. The Nords tell tales of Dragonborn heroes who were great dragonslayers, able to steal the power of the dragons they killed. Those legends predate Alessia and Miraak uses the term dragonborn.

OMG. People... did you beat Miraak yet? The MQ? Throat of the world? Yes, the dragon war and cult predate Alessia. The war predates Alessia. IN SKYRIM. NONE of those involved were Dragonborn. Solstheim is, was, and remains independent. The nine priests we meet in vanilla are akin to liches, not immortals, but mortal. They had predecessors, and peers. Likely, in Atmora, there are many, many priest tombs that predate those in Skyrim. None of those are likely Dragonborn either. IOW, it's more likely that a splinter cult existed on Solstheim, or was reinvented. And it follows, when this first Dragonborn was born, and displayed his powers, where does he go? To the Greybeards? Or to those who (from what the populace knows) know the most about dragons, the remaining priests? Those who still revere them? In the old ways.

"I could have beaten Alduin when I walked as a mortal." Paraphrase. So why didn't he? And if he was around during the Dragon Wars, why would he not have been stealing their souls then, playing a MAJOR role? Answer: He wasn't and didn't. He didn't get a chance to even meet Alduin because he didn't exist (yet).

It has never been mentioned in the Lore that St Alessia was the first Dragonborn. It just states that she is the first person to be GIFTED with Dragonblood by Akatosh. The fact that there could have been Dragonborn before her is plausible.

They do, as myths and legends told by today's Nords. Look at that bigger picture. Umaril and Pelinal, Alessia establishing the Empire, a woman, not a Nord. Sure, the Nords "helped", but Alessia was Divine, blessed by Akatosh, befriended by Shor. Basically sets the stage for (best Nordic accent) "Dragonborn? We've had dragonborn since... well since before Ysgramor at least, right Bjorn?" "Yah, Sven, at least since ME 2500." "You see. We're Nords, and you're not. So there." Even the "penultimate treatise" lore on the Dragonborn even refers to these as "tales".

Oh, very plausible, agreed. However, the lore does support Alessia as the "first dragonborn" in The Book of the Dragonborn which states that most scholars agree that the term originated with her. But also goes on to say that she "may not" have been the first, offers some conjecture, but writes it off as "tales" and provides no substantiation.

I haven't played the MQ but does it explain how Miraak gained his ability? Also, you're dragonborn despite it being explicitly stated that you were gifted it, you are NOT descended from another Dragonborn, Akatosh made you Dragonborn.

Miraak was a dragonpriest who killed dragons in ancient times. By Alessia's time dragons are for all intents extinct (some recluses remained, but in small numbers). Miraak must pre-date her, as it's indicated he murdered many dragons in his time. Alduin would have been difficult to reach as he likely only descended to Tamriel when there was a problem.

The most important thing is that, if Alessia were the first dragonborn, no one would know they were capable of taking dragon's souls.
