torches... where are they

Post » Sat May 12, 2012 7:34 pm

Hey guys and gals ive been playing skyrim a ton but can't seem to find any torches laying around like i used to in oblivion. i found two earlier on in the game but not a single one since them. my question is do i have to chop wood and make my own torches or am i just blind and not able to find them. i search and explore many caves and forts and im so tired of walking around in the dark.

In some dungeons you can actually pull them off the wall. Makes for a source of torches as well as a way for stealth players to create shadows.

If you give your companion a torch they will use it at night so you dont have to

I posted almost this exact topic not to long ago.

I highly suggest you find a court wizard selling the spell candlelight.
Its better that a torch IMO, because you dont have to take up a hand using it.

(Although you do have to recast obviously.)

I don't want to be rude and say you're just blind and don't see them but it's very possible. I've personally seen many torches maybe you're just having bad luck with dungeons haha.

Can get the two Spells for Candlelight. One will hover above you.... the other you can cast onto something, like a torch.... then don't need them.
Unless you do, for Sneaking and such.

No, Candlelight hovers above you.

This. This came as a surprise to me, I just sort of discovered it when I was near a torch sconce, and my mouse cursor indicated I could activate it. In previous Elder Scrolls games, IIRC, you couldn't actually take any of the torches in sconces, so I can easily see that someone might have no idea this is possible.

Ever notice how you can't zoom in on them and rotate them in the Items menu? :whistling:

Try Broken Oar Grotto along the Seawall North (up on Map) of Solitude....far side of Light house.

I found about 12 in there.

I have been into alot of dungeons and still haven't found one I can pull off the walls. I have only found a few on corpses or crates/barrels.

I think there is too much light in the dungeons, I haven't ever used my Kahjiit racial perk or torches or spells. Nights are bright out, and dungeons are lit up liking chritmas trees.
