I realize that everyone is freaking out about 1.2, but I was wondering if anyone could help me with this companions questline. I keep talking to Aela (the companions girls) for work, but all she will give me is animal extermination quests. I have finished the main companions quests and am a werewolf and the leader of the companions. Does anyone know if this is a bug, or am I just really unlucky in the number of animal extermination quests I have received from her?

Have you cured Vilkas and Farkas! I needed to cure them before getting the totem quests. To do that you need to do radiant quests for all three of the main companions, then Vilkas and Farkas will have a personal quest for them called purity.

Just keep doing the animal extermination quests. I was in the same exact boat as you... I did about 10 animal quests, then got frustrated and did some quests for the Imperial Legion. When I came back, Aela gave me the first Totem quest. Then another animal quest, then another Totem quest. I've done about six animal quests waiting to get the last Totem quest.

To me, this sounds like it's a "by design" choice that's either slightly buggy (eg, animal quest chance is too high) or at the very least, not well thought out.

I have done several of the radiant quests for both of them, but never received the cure quests. I'll give it a try tonight.

I haven't cured either and have received some Totem quests.

Thanks blinsc. I guess I will just go do some other stuff and give it another go after a few quests.

the Prima guide just states Purity and Hircines Totems as the final wave of Companion quests.
for some you need to cure Vilkas and Frakas first..for others they get the totwm quests as soon as you have done a few radiant quests for each of the 3 main companions.
Vilkas and Farkas also have a quest called Dragon Seekers (does what it says on the tin! go hunt a dragon)
you can sometimes force the totem quests from Alea if you marry her

the 360 also has this bug too, i know that to trigger the purity quest you have to have a witch's head in you inventory and do a random mission for vilkas and when you come back and finish up the mission, instead of usual dialogue choice there will be "is there any more work to be done" click that and the purity quest will start.

as for Aela, yes i too have been ripping my hair out because of the eternal animal extermination quests.....and i think i found out how the bug happens, you see i married her on one save file and i am currently the harbinger and a werewolf. She keeps giving me the damn AE quests over and over, so i decided to sadly use an old save file, the reason i say sadly is because i am level 45 in the married save file. now that i loaded up the old save file i only had to do three AE quests before a new dialogue choice came up, the "is there any more work to be done" and bingo, the totems of hircine quest started....and i am only bloody level 19 on that file. now i am going to murder aela for being married to me.
