Trail Carbine Scope

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 7:44 am

I really liked the Cowboy Repeater and its many upgrades, but I really prefer the firepower of the .44 magnum Trail Carbine. I added a Trail Carbine Scope, but it does not show up on the weapon automagically, like the Cby Rptr upgrades.

Is there something I need to do to activate the scope?

Did you apply the mod to the weapon? Pull up your Pip Boy and select the Trail Carbine - you should get, in the upper right hand area of the Pip Boy Screen, an indicator telling you which button to push to Repair or Mod the weapon (on the PC, the defaults are "R" and "X", respectively). Select "Mod", and the scope should appear on the list. Check it, exit the Pip Boy and you should be good to go.

Also, any modded weapon will show in your pip-boy with a "+" next to the weapon name. Sometimes when transferring inventory in and out of containers the "+" doesn't show up, but it you re-equip the item, it will come back. See it there is a "+" next to the Trail Carbine in you inventory. If not, perhaps you didn't apply the mod (done as described above) or you accidently used the modded weapon to repair a non-modded weapon.

-Gunny out.

I’ve had my eye on that gun for a while, but I don’t wanna pay for it especially if I can’t find spares to repair it with. (I don’t have the Jerry Rig Perk yet either)

Do they start showing up more later in the game? I’m at lvl 20, and since I’ve mostly been focusing on side quests, I’ve only gotten to the part in the main story where I’ve got the Boomers help and talked to House.

People put too much emphasis on that 'jury rigger' perk. Weapon repair kits work just as well at keeping hard-to-find weapons in top shape.

Yeah, but there aren't tons of'em around and I like my guns tip-top

And anyway, if I didn't mention it, people would just tell me that I need to get it

Weapon repair kits aren't that hard to acquire. The components are easy enough to find, and if you have the right skill buffs, you don't need to get your repair skill as high as 50. And if you have what's her name with you, you won't even need to find a work bench.

Forget the Trail Carbine, use the Brush Gun, its way better at higher levels.
I would rather use the Laser Rifle (with all mods) than the Trail Carbine, because I crouch and look into my scope on my Laser Rifle+ and shoot 2 Fiends.* :disguise: You scored a scored a Sneak Attack Critical on Fiend*.

Yea but .44 rounds are much easier to come by than .40-.70 gov't (or whatever the round brush gun uses). You also need to have 100 in guns to use the brush gun without it shaking all over the place.

I haven't even been able to find the trail carbines scope (or any other kind of scope for any other kind of rifle <_< ), but maybe its a glitch if you modded it and its not showing up on your gun.

Oh crap, that was it. I should have rtfm again. The cowboy repeater mods the long tube, fast loader and maple stock, so I was just expecting the same. It makes perfect sense with the scope, you would not want that "applied" all the time. Nice mod, the .44 magnum really packs a punch... for a conventional weapon.

OTOH

I just picked up the Gauss Rifle and that is some serious firepower. I tried it out on a bighorn and OMG... that is a big beast and it knocked it down like it was a Night Stalker getting hit by a .357 magnum.

I also really like the Laser Rifle w/all mods, really kicks it up a notch and reduces thugs, fiends and P-gangers to a pile of ash. I have not tried the LR w/scope.
I like the trail carbine on the trails for picking off the varmints - everything but the Cazadores, then it's Flame ON!

Try the Cowboy Repeater - it was my favorite until the Trail Carbine. The Cby Rptr upgrades are the maple stock (to save weight), long tube (+4 ammo) and the quick reloader. You can see it in action in two of my Youtube videos, linked in the profile.

I think I bough the Trail Carbine scope from the Gun Runners. Their merchandise is high quality and worth the extra cost.

.40-.70 gov't (or whatever the round brush gun uses).

.45-70

The basic .45-70 cartridge has been around a *long* time. It was used by the US military back in the 1870's, and was very popular for buffalo hunters as well. The name means a .45 caliber bullet (11.43mm, for you metric people), with 70 grains of black powder (a grain is 1/7000th of a pound). Back in the day, when professional hunters would be casting their own bullets and putting together their own cartridges for maximum accuracy, this would have been followed by the bullet weight, such as a 350 grain bullet which would be written .45-70-350. Similar cartridges to look into are the .45-90, the .50-90, and the comically sausage-like .45-120.

Your daily dose of firearms trivia. :)

Weapon repair kits don't help you with armor though and with Jury Rigging you don't have to scrounge for WRK parts and make them up at the Work Bench.

As for the Trail Carbine it is the best gun for a while though you can get a better gun in This Machine before it. The Trail Carbine has a scope though so that has to be taken into consideration. The two big DAM dealing rifles, This Machine, and the Brush Gun, can't be scoped. Essentially the scoped Trail Carbine is the best sniper rifle until you find or buy a Sniper Rifle.

When it comes to the big two I still prefer This Machine. .308 ammo is plentiful and is easy to turn into JSP rounds which are all you'll ever need. It also shoots faster, holds more rounds, has almost 4x the HP and reloads WAY faster.
