Use fire enchanted weapons for trolls. Bring lots of health potions for giants.

What class are you playing? Warrior or mage?

I am a Redguard.

Only level 8. I have spent my perks in three areas.

1. One handed
2. Archery
3. Destruction

Giants are impossible. They are easily the hardest character in the game so far. Are they harder characters? If so, i might just stop playing, :)

Trolls regenerate, but are susceptible to fire.

Either, as a mage, hammer it with fire spells or as a none mage use a fire enchanted weapon.

Giants just take forever and you dont really "have" to kill them.. They kind of are like the sheppard of the world.
If you really want to kill it. Stand in water... they dont like water at all and will not follow you in it. Even on 2 inch shallow depth.
Their mammoths will though!

Stand on a stone, up on a ledge, where they cant climb up. They will lose interest after a while so you will have to climb down and reengage them into the fight.
Doing this you dont even need healing potions, but the fight it self will take forever. I just cant be bothered and usually just leave them alone.

Never faced a troll, but Giants are not that hard, if you're cautious.
Try to get above them, those guys have a hard time reaching high spots.
After that, just throw arrows or spells until they die.

But it's not worth to kill giants IMO, unless they're close to their "home", where usually there's some chests with good loot.
But when walking on the open, just pass by them, unless you really need their toes.

No I think giants have a minimum level and that number is probably higher than 8 by a lot. Once you reach their level, they should be easier.

For trolls, maybe bring a companion.

Sneak/Archery

x3 damage bow bonus from Sneak perk
80% greater bow damage from Archery perks
56% greater bow damage from apparel enchantments
Elven bow enchanted with fire damage

All that equals very dead trolls and giants. I just got through clearing an entire cave of frost trolls without taking any damage, and none of them took more than two arrows to go down.

I faced a giant immediately after leaving the first village as a lowly mage with no survivability. As soon as I realized they one shot killed me I just started running backwards while turning around to cast fire spells. Then as soon as I came upon a moderately sized rock right by the road I just ran around it while pelting him with fireballs and arrows. Took a little while but he went down.

Now at lv44 they just die in a few seconds to double firebolts...

here is a tip, or more like a exploit maybe but i see it as strategy. just climb ontop of a rock where their walkpath cant reach you, if u attack them with ranged stuff they will flee from u, but if u jump off the rock they will come closer again, repeat these steps until u killed the giant. (works excelent in the giant camp near whiterun, its as if that rock sticking out there is made for it)

even a level 1 can do this if u have enough arrows lol

Oh, yeah. There is. There are quite a few more archer perks that I didn't even mention.
For instance:
15% chance to paralyze target
50% chance to stagger target
Etc.

A dragon is all that has any kind of survivability from my archery assault, mainly because the bastards fly and swoop around making me miss half the time.

Im a mage, i use staff of sparks in one hand and fireball spell in other hand, giants move very slow so no problem keeping at range and blasting to death. Even give them quick freeze to try slow them down more.

How a warrior would handle giant, would love too see.

Haven't tried a Giant since my first attempt where it 1 shotted me so far up into the air that it auto-loaded from death before i'd stopped going UP. I'm an Archer, so I imagine i'd have to be pretty lame.

I had a funny incident with a giant today. I came across one for the first time as I was out picking herbs. I wasn't sure if it was going to attack me at first so I inched in slowly so I would have an easy escape if it charged. I got close enough to where I thought if he was gonna attack he would have. I felt comfortable that I was ok so I started herbing around the rock he was standing next to. Next thing I know Im flying through the air dead. I lost a good 20 minutes worth of herbing for not saving but all I could do was laugh at the situation.

Giants are easy, but you have to use some tactics for killing them. As i'm archer, and i hate using dirty tricks on enemies, those are quite hard to kill but still possible. Giants speed is low, and you can take advantage of it. Don't try to kill one if you use slow weapon too (2-handed weapons). Run close to them with 1 handed weapon, hit once or twice and wait until it tries to hit you. Then run away to avoid the hit and run back to hit couple of times again. Repeat.

The AI in the game is pretty terrible, and you can use it to your advantage. All you need is a bow, and a lot of arrows. Find a good rocky position, shoot until they get close- then jump down. The AI will run back around, letting you shoot it the whole time. Giants are particularly vulnerable to this, as they have to keep stopping to figure out the next rout.

As for trolls, i have yet to kill a single one. Their health regenerates faster than my bow can take it down, and their punches keep me at a distance eliminating my main strength, melee.

I killed my first frost troll last night. Took about 8 minutes lots of magika pots and plenty of running and jumping round in circles blasting it to death. Im lvl 20.
