Trouble with Quest: Glories and Laments

Post » Wed May 23, 2012 9:10 pm

I have a miscellaneous quest what wants me to "Find the copy of 'Glories and Laments'". The quest is trackable and in fact I found the chest that is marked with the quest tracker icon. Trouble is, I think I already had the book from before I did the quest. It is in my inventory, and the game knows it is a quest item because it won't let me store or drop it. I'd try bringing it to whomever it was that wanted it but the quest doesn't say and I can't remember where I picked it up (hate that about misc quests). I took a shot at using some console commands to delete the book from my inventory, add it to the chest, and pick it up again but that didn't change the quest marker. The chest is located after you finish the cave "White River Watch" and is outside on a cliff immediately after finishing the dungeon. I know there are also commands I can use to forcibly complete this stage of the quest but I'm not sure what the ID code to use is, and plus I want to confirm I'm not just missing something stupid. Thanks.

I have the same problem, too. This is the second bug for me today. First one was about the fragments of the amulets and i can't find the piece that Gauldurson carries. Quest marker shows deep undergrounds :) Second one is about the Glories and Laments. I already cleaned out that place before and got the book before the quest started. Now, some guy from the College of Winterhold asked me to get it. I had the book with me but there was no dialogue line in speech. I went to the dungeon and found a chest that has a quest marker on top of it. I already took everything inside of the chest before starting the quest so... Marker is still there, book is still with me and the quest is with the.. i don't know. They are small bugs but second time in a day makes me angry of sorts. Seems like we shouldn't clear out any place before completing all quests.

Sadly this is impossible. I think the name of the random quest system is called "Radiant" or something but basically I think what it does is generate an endless supply of random objectives from certain townspeople. The dungeon I had cleared I believe I cleared as part of a non-random quest which fouled up the random generated one later. I think we just need to wait for a patch or figure out the commands to remove fouled up Radiant objectives. Living with what could become an ever growing list of objectives that can't be completed just doesn't cut it for me.

I am also having this issue. The quest marker takes me to the chest it used to be in but the book is already in my inventory. I can't put the book back into the chest because it is a quest item and the guy that sent me on the quest doesn't give me the option to give him the book.
