[RELz] True Darker Nights

Post » Sat May 19, 2012 6:49 am

I'd been waiting to do a release until I was sure it was working as I wanted it. Well, in the end run, all of my optional files didn't work properly, but I had one file that did. I'm still to this point not sure why, but.. Well, anyways.

***IMPORTANT NOTICE***
I've only been successful in creating a single version without issues, namely, the Darker Nights and Bright Skies. Thus, I'm doing a release with that as the only version. If you want an older one, feel free to download an older file. If you want one without issues, use the latest one.

***BASICS***
This mod creates much darker nights, without using an injection technique. I've manually edited all the imagespaces and weather settings (though the latter seemed to have little effect, for some unknown reason - won't know until we get the CK) to reduce the amount of sunlight and brightness at nights. This took quite a lot of work to actually edit and get working, it's amazing as to the complexity of this - you'd think simply changing ambient lighting would work, but of course, it does not.

The version called 'Weather Changes Only' is intended for use with Realistic Lighting.

If you like it, take a look at my other mod - PISE: Pluto's Improved Skyrim Experience.

It makes the game more difficult in various ways. This file will be included as an optional inside of PISE.

***AUTHOR'S NOTE***
For those interested, this was already difficult to actually figure out, test, and manage. I'd put a better version up, but I'd need the CK to manage it. This is the best I could do after messing with pretty much everything to do with lighting!

***INSTALLATION***

Nexus Mod Manager (NMM) Installation (www.skyrimnexus.com/content/modmanager):
a) Download through NMM, and activate there.
 Follow as from 3) below

Manual Installation:
1) Unzip the files to a directory of your choosing.
2) Move the ESP file 'Darker Nights' into the Data directory of your Skyrim installation (located inside the steam folder, under steamapps/common/skyrim).
3) When starting Skyrim, click on data files, and make sure the 'Darker Nights.esp' is checked.
4) Run Skyrim!

Only activate one plug-in at a time! See the file list below for details.

***FILE LIST***
Main files:
Darker Nights and Bright Skies.esp - Reduces light while retaining a brighter sky, and mildly reduces overall nighttime brightness settings.
Weather Changes Only.esp - Reduces ambient nighttime lighting only, to be used with Realistic Lighting Without Post-Processing by 747823. Inside Optionals folder.

Optional:
Bright Lights.esp - use with Darkest Nights to have brighter torches, campfires, and light spells.

***CHANGELOG***
v4.6 - Apparently, only one file actually does not have the black fog, so it'll by my new base version.
v4.5 - Rebuilt yet again. Heh. I found that some of the editing software was truncating weather data. Virtually guaranteed to have caused the black fog.
v4.1 - Rebuilt the mod again. Added option for no weather. If this doesn't work right, try that. Incremented to 4.1 because I'm tired of going up a number on a rebuild.
v4.0 - Took the original version 2.0 files and edited sunlight values to get rid of black grass. Given up on fixing the white fog at nights. >.<
v3.5 - Implemented a cross between version 2.0 and version 3.1, to try and eliminate the black grass from the version 2.0 and the black fog from 3.1.
v3.1 - Reworked weather fog settings to darken distance fog, approximately by half. Brightened campfires and extended the range, slightly darkened torches more.
v3.0 - Entirely reworked mod to add light to areas with the auroras and to eliminate the black grass bug. Tweaked torches down a little bit more.

In the new update, yes. It'll still be maintained as a separate file, though. Decided to do a release thread on here since I got to a good version.

Did you figure out what was causing the issue with radiant quest items?

It was with Darker Dungeons, not the NIghts, IIRC.

Yep, that was only dungeons. Nights work just fine. Still trying to decipher the issue for dungeons. >.<
