Is it true the system requirements will be lower?

Post » Tue Nov 02, 2010 8:37 am

I came across this when looking for the actual system requirements: http://www.tomshardware.com/news/Crytek-Crysis-Pc-Game-FPS,9841.html

I wanna know if it's true or not and if you can provide a source please.

Thanks.

EDIT: To be more specific, my title was going to say: will the system requirements for Crysis 2 be lower than what they were for Crysis?

Yes, slightly. But a Quad Core motherboard, 3gb Ram+, 5770 graphics card and/or EVGA/ASUS GTS450 can run it very high pretty well.

Yes, the system requirements for Crysis 2 will be lower than Crysis 1.

http://www.incrysis.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=852&Itemid=1

In his India Game Developer Summit 2010 keynote speech, executive producer Carl Jones revealed that Crysis 2 will have lower system requirements and improved graphics capabilities when compared to Crysis. The statement comes from a report recently published on DNA India website.

Its been speculated and mentioned a lot recently.
However, until there is no official statement. We must remain vigilant.

Will my ATI Radeon HD 4870 512MB be able to run Crysis 2 on maximum graphical detail without slowing down at all?

Right now it runs Crysis pretty smoothly with everything up all the way except anti-aliasing. With anti-aliasing off it only freezes/slows down when i turn too fast (1920x1080 Resolution). With it any higher it slows down a lot in any kind of action leaving me defenseless and unable to battle effectively. And this is with my power options set to maximum performance to where it uses more energy.

No, you'll need a DX11 card for the maximum settings. As for whether or not you'll experience slowdown, no one can know for sure since neither the game nor the system requirements have been released.

I would maybe think of getting a 4870X2 or run two 4870's in CrossFire, as Crysis 2 will probably need it. You won't be able to run DX11, but DX10 should be able to run okay with a top notch card and better coding. Crysis and Crysis Warhead have very bad coding for ATI graphic cards since Crytek struck a deal with NVIDIA before release.

Im getting a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 295 for the release of Crysis 2, as I have no need for DX11, but a top notch dual GPU DX10 card will probably be necessary to run with good visuals/framerate.

Good idea, but how much is a Gtx 295 right now?

While Crysis 1 was almost impossible to play with the mainstream hardware at that time, Crysis 2 will be playable with mainstream hardware. It's still a heavy peace of software but relatively is less heavy then crysis 1 at the time of release.

Or you could buy a hd6850, it'd be cheaper, quieter, and you'd also have dx11. You'll only regret not having dx11 in a year :P

They have been going on eBay for about $190. :)

And seeing that I will be selling my GTX 285 and they go for about $180, I am essentially spending only $10 for a dual GPU boost and ~30-40fps boost. :)

The problem i have with upgrading my graphics card isn't the price as much as it is that a bigger card wont fit in my case.

Are there any better cards than mine that are the same size or smaller?

an ok case, suitable in sizing for long graphics cards is a fraction of the price of a med-top card, why don't u just change case for something suitable, then much less future worries

You would need to link us to the case you have, for instance, mine contains a GTX 285 which is 10.5 inches long, you can find this information from the manufacturer of the video cards and compare it to the current one you have to get a good idea of whether or not it will fit.

If all else fails, you can get the saw and cut a handy hole in your case to make it fit. ;)

It's the original case for the HP Pavillion Elite e9120y

Ive upgraded the graphics card and power supply when I bought it, but obviously I didn't really plan for future games.

Well, smaller maps? check. More efficient API? check. More refined rendering techniques? check.

Can't see how it'll be running worse :)
