Is it true you can bring followers?

I've been lurking carefully in this forum so as not to get spoiled as i wait for the PC release.
And i've heard people saying things about followers in solstheim but nothing conclusive,is it true that you can bring any vanilla follower to Solstheim?

But how does it work,from what i know,you take a boat there....they just have to be aboard the boat with you?

yes,they travel on the boat with you
