Trying to add people to Potential Marriage Faction

Hi

My first mod attempt has crashed and burned so far, I was never very good at scripting in GECK but the result scripts in dialogue and quest stages were easy to follow, but not here (For me at least)

I am trying a mod to add more people for the player to be able to marry, I have checked the details of people you can marry (Ysolda and Carmilla) and to start with I was trying to add Carlotta from Whiterun. I added the "Potential Marriage Faction" but when I tried to check the dialogue options in the quests that you do as a favour for Ysolda and Carmilla I can't see any difference in the result scripts to the result script in Carlotta's favour quest. Yet in the game after I do Carlotta's favour the wedding dialogue doesn't kick in where it does for Ysolda and Carmilla.

There's obviously a script command somewhere to make this dialogue happen but I'm stuck, the Creation Kit is going to take some learning for me ;-)

Probably best place to start is to look at the scripts attached to Ysolda and Camilla (assuming there are any). My guess is, however, that even after you do Carlotta's favor quest your relationship rank with her isn't high enough to trigger the marriage dialogue yet. I'm not at my home computer though so I can't confirm my supposition, just thinking based on how we've been able to use console commands for marriage pre-CK.

I tried to check the scrips for Ysolda and Carmilla but it's different now than GECK, in the NPC box there isn't a script option as there was in the GECK ones. The script result after doing the favour for Ysolda and Carmilla seems exactly the same as for Carlotta, the command the in result script about relationsip status is the same as far as I can see. I'd appreciate any help when you do get the chance

Anyone know how to do this? I just can't see anywhere in the scripts for Camilla that differs from Carlotta but there must be something somewhere because just adding Carlotta to the Potential Marriage Faction isn't enough to make the dialogue kick in

The quests are where I have checked so far and also the scripts in the NPC's own profile box, but script in the result boxes for both NPCs and also Ysolda all seem identical, so I'm clearly not looking in the right place

Select "Hello" in the "Topics" List
Look for the first of the RelationshipMarriage entries (about half way down) - Y asks "Is that an Amuleyt of Mara?"
Double Click that Item

The Quest Items that must have occured will be on the resulting Form

Does your Carlotta have the same RelationshipMarriage Entry and are the Quest Variables all OK?

EDIT: Actually I'm fairly certain that those dialogue options don't appear in Carlotta's dialogue boxes in her Actor Form , and I couldn't see why not. But I'll check again as I say

Sadly no good, those topics do all appear in Carlotta's dialogue tree once she's added to the Potential Marriage Faction but in game the dialogue doesn't kick in, but it does for Ysolda. At a loss now!

Yeah the Carlotta Quest is Favour013 and Ysolda's is Favor110 so both are the same type of generic repeatable quest and both seem to have the same result script. Which is why I'm at a total loss, Camilla's quest is a bit different as it's the Golden Claw one so isn't one of the repeatable favour ones, but still the result script seems the same regarding the relationship status. I'm in the process of a new game to see if maybe testing via the console was messing the quest up

Ok, I'm at a total loss now, nothing I try works, I simply cannot find any difference in the scripts for the characters who you can marry and those you can't. As far as I can tell adding them to the Potential Marriage Faction is the only difference. Need a lie down my head hurts ;-)

By default, she has a Mother (Mila) and an Acquaintence (Mikael). So unless one of the Quests is marrying her off (which seems unlikely?) then she is not married.

There is a MarriageExcludedFaction ... but Carlolta is not a member of it (again, unless some Quest/Script is adding her to it after game start, which again, seems unlikely)

You are adding her FULLNAME to the Factions, not her Shortname, aren't you?? Her fullname is: CarlottaValentia


(After that, I'm running out of ideas ... it should be working ... If you do figure it out, please post :smile:)

It's not really a case of adding short name or full name, I add the Faction to her Actor Box directly, I've even tried to totally mirror the factions that Camilla and Ysolda are in but no luck. I found a guy on Nexus who has made a marriage mod where almost all NPC's are marriable. He PM'd me today to say that he tried for ages but Carlotta just wouldn't work!

I wonder if one of the Bethesda guys could help?

I can't find anything obvious that is preventing it ... I'm guessing there must be a script somewhere that is putting her into the MarriageExcludedFaction ...

... have you tested the members of the excluded faction once you have done her quest and are wearing the amulet (just a debug print thingy)?

Other than that, given the Nexus guy had the same issue, I hope a Beth guy can help you out

Something (else) stupid ... Carlotta has no Weight (Traits panel of Actor Sheet), everyone in the PotentialMarriage Faction has a weight ... Indeed, every other character I can find (be bothered to look at) has a weight ... Except Children, who have no weight.

(Carlotta is not assigned as ImperialChild, so it shouldn't be ... but hey ...)

Now, it's not so stupid that simply adding some weight (Yso has 20) to Carlotta fixes this up?

(just made me think, because Carlotta has a mother and no weight ... )

And finally (no, I mean it) ... I'm wrong, you are right, Carlotta has a child (Mila), not as I put, that she is a child.

I can find no other Marriageable Partner with a child ... Not that I can find a check anywhere to say "No marriage if already has child" ...

So - The TWO odd things about Carlotta are: No Weight and Has Child.

If it isn't one of them ... I'm b***ered if I know what it is ;)

Just a thought but the marriage info's have conditions checking if the voice type is in a number of voice type lists. Pre CK I tried to add some characters to the marriage faction and it didnt work, I reckon thats why. Probably why you can't marry bosmer or khajits too, there's no voice recordings for them. Try change her voice type to the same as someone you can marry, but I expect any unique dialogue she has will disappear then too.

Yeah, I checked the voice for her and the voice she has in her Actor Box is included in the conditions for the Marriage dialogue, it doesn't seem to matter what I check I just can't find where she differs from the others, except that she has a daughter, but I've tried removing her house faction, removing the relationship and even with her daughter deleted from the game and still no luck.

Maybe if one of the Bethesda guys spot this thread maybe they can help as I've said, it's become personal now! I'm not even that bothered about marrying her, I just want to beat this!! ;)

A few of you wanted me to keep you informed but I've just about given up with this, there doesn't seem to be any way of making her marriable, there must be a script somewhere doing it but I just can't find it. Could it be hard coded ? Something we can't get to?
