Turning into a vampire randomly glitch

Hello, I've been searching around and through old topics but couldn't find anything relating to this glitch. It's only happened to me since Dawnguard. I am a werewolf, yet during my random travels, always during combat, my screen turns purple and the message "your vampire powers recede as you feed" appear, despite the fact that I am not a vampire. Sure enough, I check my active effects, I suddenly the game registers me as a vampire. My character doesn't visually change in appearance to match the usual vampire form. But he just gains all the vampire related powers. It is a serious annoyance. Even loading older saves, eventually it would happen again. I even had serana turn me into a proper vampire lord, then aela change me to a werewolf again to get rid of the vampire stuff. I thought all was good, until eventually, it happened again! Once again I was in combat, the screen goes purple and "my powers recede as I feed" and once again, I gain all the vampire related effects. I'm wondering if Serana has something to do with it? She was my follower each time it happened?

Anyone else familiar with this?

Hey I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who had this glitch, must mean that it actually is reproducable, so maybe it will get fixed. On the other hand, I offer my condolances, because it is annoying as hell. Go check the Dawnguard bug list, it is on there I know, I reported it. Personally, I had to cure my vampirism about 9 times before I just got fed up and restarted. It is annoying, but the way my random transformations were spaced out, I was able to handle it at first. I do not know of anyway to fix it currently. Sorry to hear you suffer from it as well.

Out of curiousity, did you transform between a werewolf and vampire lord? From your post, it would appear you never did. I was a werewolf at first, decided to become a Vampire Lord for a certain part of the main quest, then got rid of the vampirism to beat Dawnguard and got my werewolf back. I ran into ANOTHER glitch that kept me from re-entering the Soul Cairn, so I became a VL again and was able to re-enter (others who have had this issue just can't re-enter period, just a heads up). I left and got cleaned again, and then after finding out I couldn't be returned into a werewolf again, I moved on. At that point, I started having this glitch, so I wonder if that was maybe the cause.

Also, this post would be better off in the Dawnguard Xbox support forum, just as a heads up. GL with whatever you do!

When it first happened to me, that character had never previously been a vampire lord or regular vampire. I had always been a werewolf. It first happened right when I when completing the final Companion questline in Ysgramor's tomb. I didn't willingly become a vampire lord until after it happened- having Serana turn me, then Aela turning me back for a quick fix. I am wondering if there is some connection to the companions questline and other werewolf related issues.

However, before Dawnguard came out, I took my same character and made two separate saves- one for dawnguard playthrough and one for vampire lord playthrough. I did the vampire lord playthrough first, before going back to my old save and playing my primary non-vampire character through dawnguard. I don't see how they could have confused together since they were separate saves, but figured it was worth mentioning.

From what I've gathered, it seems to only happen during combat with Serana as a follower. It's hard to know for sure since she tends to charge in during combat, but it seems as though it happens when she is using vampiric drain on enemies. Again, this is only speculation from my experience. I can't be positive as it has happened quite a few times, but it may have even randomly happened once when Aela was my follower as well.

It's a bit unfortunate as I have resorted to reloading saves every time it happens. I will try to start making note of the in-game surroundings next time it happens.
